We found out today that we are going to have to have a Covid PCR test 72 hours before we fly back to the states which means that we are going to have to go to Accra several days earlier than we had expected. Our daughter, Charity is the one that asked if we had to have a test to enter the states. We had looked on line several times but found nothing that indicated we had to have a test prior to boarding. Steve decided to call Delta airlines and after a long wait the agent told him that we had to have one if we were coming out of Ghana. The Covid is worse in Accra and Kumasi, the 2 largest cities than it is anywhere else or maybe they just have more testing facilities. We are not thrilled with having to stay that long in Accra; not just because of the Covid but you know how cheap I am! I hate to pay for those extra 2 nights in a hotel!
There is a very nice modern looking hospital that we pass as we are driving around in Accra. Almost every time we pass it Steve says, “If I am ever sick I want to come to that hospital.” Well, he is getting his wish. He is going to get to go to that hospital. Steve called them today and asked if they were giving the PCR test. He was very pleased when he found that not only were they giving the test they said we could get the results on Monday morning. Please say a prayer that all goes well for us!
Today is a holiday; well, it is not really a holiday, it is Election Day. Ghana is choosing a president. Friday was the actual holiday; it was Farmer’s Day. The president decided to change the public holiday from Friday to today. We had already decided to change it for our workers because most of them are off on Friday. We knew that no one would come to work anyway so why not give them the day off. I guess the president had the same idea. The compound has been quiet today which has been very nice.
Since our stay in Yendi has been cut short by 2 days we have been scurrying around trying to get some of the last minute things done. One of the things we are trying to finish is the taxes for next year. The government still has not announced the minimum wage increase for 2021. Steve found a tax figuring program for Ghana on the internet this morning so he was able to figure the IRS tax but it was for 2020 so it could change when we know the wage increase.
Take care and thank you for all you do for us.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
