Well we were surprised this morning when no one but Meri came to work. We called Mr. Iddrisu and he was helping his neighbor with the “Adua” celebration. This is the day when family and friends gather to sympathize with the family of someone who died. The person is buried the same day that they die and then either 3 or 4 days later they have the Adua. If it is a woman that dies they wait 4 days; if it is a man they wait 3 days. But there is a certain day of the week that they don’t do it but I can’t remember which day it is.
Zorash called and said that she returned so late for her trip to Tamale to attend the Independence Day celebration that she was too tired to come to work and she would make up her day next week. We never heard from Amama which is really strange because she is the one that is most apt to come to work and let us know when she is not coming.
Now Nazo has another story to tell. He attended the celebration yesterday and was planning on coming back to Yendi but the new Yaa-Naa (new king) told him that he was too tired and that he should sleep in Tamale and come back today. He said that they did not leave early and when they got to Sambu they got stuck in traffic because it was Sambu’s market day and they were loading yams in the middle of the road. He will make up his day on Saturday.
Fortunately only a handful of mothers came to the Center today. Meri is a good interpreter but she cannot read or write so she cannot run the Center without lots of help. Most of the women that came were the caregivers for the orphans; they came to pick up the formula.
Timothy and a Bro. Mark from Tatale stopped by for a visit; Mark really wanted us to take up the work in the region of Brong Ahafo but it is a very long way away so there is no way we could keep an eye on it. Steve told him that we could help in other ways so he gave him some Bibles, tracts, communion trays, juice and some teaching aids. Steve also paid for his transport and invited him to come for the monthly class. He was pleased when he left.
Today is Yendi’s big market day so Divine was out hauling people and goods with his Motor king. He stopped by the house with a couple of the churches’ documents from this area. Slowly but surely we are getting information from all the churches. He said he would be ready to leave for Wa at 5:00 in the morning.
Take care and please keep us in your prayers as we travel. It will take about 8 hours for us to get to Wa.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
