The building at Kulkpeni is coming right along.  The mason said that he would finish laying the block tomorrow; then he will set the doors and windows.  The problem with the doors is that Red is having a hard time getting them sprayed because of power outages and rain.  We stopped by this morning and picked up those that he had finished.  We also picked up the metal veranda poles.  The poles are hollow; we will have the mason fill them with cement.  It makes the poles very heavy but they should last for years!

The price of cooking oil has gone down a lot in the past few months.  We are afraid that it will start going back up so this afternoon we bought 9 – 5 gallons jerry cans of oil.  We bought what we will need for the seminar, for the Child Center and for gifts for the workers.  The way we figure is that the oil won’t eat anything and it won’t ruin before we use it so we might as well get a good deal on it and store it!  It makes my heart happy to save money!

Today was market day so after we dropped the doors and veranda poles at Kulkpeni I decided to call the sewing machine repair man to see if he was going to be in his shop today.  I was happy when he answered his phone.  He said that he was in his shop; I told him we were coming.  When we got to the shop he had gone out; he went to the mosque for the midday prayers.  Since today is Friday, the Muslims try to go to the mosque.  It is sort of like Christian and Sunday.  We told him that we would come back after prayers.  When we went back, he still was not in his shop.  We called him again and he told us that he was on his way coming and that we should work for him.  The seamstresses that have a shop near his shop took pity on us and gave us some stools to sit on.  We waited for 45 minutes and he still did not come; finally, one of the seamstresses called him to see where he was.  He said he was on his way coming.  He showed up about 15 minutes later.  It did not take long for us to explain what sewing machine parts we were looking for.  He charged far too much for the items but I was happy nonetheless.  When we were in Accra at the carvers I bought a wooden replica of a sewing machine; it is so cute!  I wanted to make it look more authentic by adding the original metal Singer sewing machine decals to it.  I can’t wait to get them put on the machine; it will look so good!

Yesterday when we were at Kulkpeni a young lady who has been visiting the church came to Timothy and told him that she wanted to be baptized.  She was friends with some of the other people at church.  We stopped what we were doing and headed to the river so Timothy could baptize her!  What a wonderful surprise!  What a happy day!

The weekend is upon us!  Enjoy yours!

The Monkeyshines

Mom tried to sew today and I tried to help!  She said that I was more trouble than I was worth!  That hurt my feelings but it did not keep me from snatching straight pins!

I learned how to open a pill bottle!  I am so clever!  I have not learned to open the ones with the “child safety” lid but I can get the top off one that has a regular lid.  I learned on an empty vitamin bottle.  After Mom noticed that I could open the bottle she added coated peanuts to the bottle so that when I got it opened, I would get a reward.  I don’t really eat the peanuts; I like the coating on the outside of the peanuts so when I get one I bite off the coating; eat it and throw down the peanut.

Tonight, when Mom returned me to my jail cell, she forgot to take off my diaper.  There was no way that she could leave the diaper on me all night so she took me back out of solitary confinement.  I was so upset when she took the diaper off and put me back in jail!  I totally did not understand the mistreatment that I had to endure!  I cried and cried but she did not take me out again!  Mom and Dad had to leave to go to Zorash’s house to buy the oil but I did not understand why I could not go with them too!

Poor Me!
