Zorash did not come to work today; she went to the hospital to have her knee x-rayed.  If you remember several weeks ago she had an accident on her motorcycle and we tried in vain to get her to go to the hospital and have it x-rayed but she decided that she wanted it to be treated with traditional medicine.  Really!  After what Donkey has gone through with his son’s broken arm!  Donkey is still dragging the child to the traditional healer / bone setter every morning; the guy is never going to release him as long as Donkey keeps feeding him a little money all along.  I asked Zorash if she was going to the same healer; she said she was not.  The healer pulls on her leg every day until he makes her cry ;how can that be good for your knee especially if something is broken?  I asked her why she could not go to the doctor in the afternoon when she finished work.  She said that her time is not free in the afternoon because she has to start cooking as soon as she gets to the house.  Her knee is still seriously swollen and she can barely get from point A to point B.  I am not sure what they can do for her knee when it has been so long since the accident.

We finally got one of the shipments of formula today!  Hey!  We have more than enough to last while we are in the states.

First thing this morning we sent Mr. Iddrisu to town to pay the taxes on the Child Center workers and the Withholding tax.  This is the first time that we have used a check to pay the GRA (IRS) taxes and the Withholding tax.  When Iddrisu got to the bank with the checks they could not give him a receipt; they told him that he would have to come back on Wednesday to get the receipt.  Now that sounds rather weird.  The bank said that since this is the first time for us to pay by check it will take some time to get the receipt.  Steve said that maybe they have to wait for the check to clear before they can give a receipt.  Well, excuse me, they should have given some form of “proof of payment”!  When Mr. Iddrisu tried to pay the Social Security on the employees they called to tell us that we had made the check out for the wrong amount.  Steve took them a new check and sure enough we had written the check on last year’s figures instead of the new figures.  At least that was an easy mistake to fix.

Last night before we went to bed we packaged all the dry food for Skeeter while we will be gone.  We were happy to have that job behind us.  We have to count the days we will be gone and make 2 packets of fruit and 1 package of dry snack food for each day that we will be gone.

Donkey planted corn again in part of the back field.  Why he wastes his time planting corn is beyond me!  We questioned him about it and he said that this year he is going to buy liquid fertilizer to use.  Well, the fertilizer should make the weeds grow really well because he never gets around to weeding his fields.  He said he is also going to plant peanuts.  Now peanuts will grow in the back field but they need to be weeded too.

Take care, have fun today!

The Monkeyshines

It has been a long time since I have been in as much trouble as I was in today!   It was terrible!  I thought I was done for!  I thought that Mom was going to commit “Harry Carry!” against me!  I don’t even know what that means but I heard it somewhere.

I was helping in the Child Center and I was on my leash over in the corner where I could not get to anyone; I was playing with a doll and a plastic bag minding my own business.  Meri’s little boy, Hakim, decided to come over where I was playing.  When he got close enough I jumped and grabbed him and ran away!  I scared him to death!  I did not bite him; I just grabbed him; he fell down and started screaming!  Mom was up like a flash and I was being physically dragged to the house!  I knew that solitary confinement was in my future!  All the way to the house she repeated, “No Skeeter!  No biting!  No Skeeter!”  In my own defense I did not technically bite the child!  But I knew that I was in no position to argue the point!

Mom put me straight into the Time Out box and then she left the room and left me there for what seemed like an eternity!  I was very apologetic!  I sent Hakim a gift to make up for my ugliness!  I sent him a sucker, 3 matchbox cars, a small packet of cookies and a couple pieces of chewing gum.  He was all smiles when he got the gifts!  Mom told Meri to tell him that I was sorry!
