Rahana, a 10 year old girl was brought to the Child Center this morning by her father. They are from a village a long way away from Yendi. Rahana has what appears to be osteomyelitis in her right leg. Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone. She got the infection after a bucket probably filled with water fell on her leg. It is very difficult, painful and expensive to treat. She has been to Tamale Teaching Hospital and the doctors say that she needs surgery to clean and correct the problem. It sounds like they are going to do implants of bone cement laden with antibiotics. Later the implants will have to be removed. The hospital wrote a letter appealing for funds because the family does not have the money to pay for the surgery and health insurance will not pay for it. The surgery alone will cost 2,200 GH. The family has a promise for 1,000GH. Thanks to your generosity we were able to give them the rest of the money needed for the surgery. The family will still be out transportation, food, and some medicine but they said that if they could get the money for the surgery they could manage the rest. They are supposed to report to the hospital tomorrow. The little girl’s father was so pleased that we were able to help. We pass his thanks on to you.
Japan Motors called this morning to let us know that they have the parts to fix Timothy’s motorcycle. We will leave early in the morning for Tamale so we can be there shortly after they open. If they get the motorcycle fixed we will come back tomorrow afternoon. We went out to Timothy’s house to pick up the motorcycle this afternoon. We put it in the green truck. It is a tight fit but it can be done. Steve got it tied down and he checked the green truck for oil, water and tire pressure. The truck has been running well since we had it fixed. While we are in Tamale we will take the truck to the air conditioning man; it is not cooling. It seemed to have developed a leak when they changed out the headlights. It will be a hot ride to Tamale tomorrow but hopefully the trip back will be cooler.
It rained in the early hours of the morning so we were not able to start roasting corn today. It drizzled half of the morning. We will try again on Wednesday. We ran out of weaning mix this morning. We had to buy some in the market this afternoon which just kills me! We have no idea what is in their weaning mix or how long it has been made but the children need something to eat. As soon as we get corn and soybeans roasted we will grind our own.
We saw Divine in town this afternoon. He said that he still has not heard anything about his teaching position. He is hoping that he will hear something today.
Thank you for helping us with the work. We appreciate all you do!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
