Dawda, the mason came the mission house this morning to try and figure out why the gutters that catch the rain water are leaking. He finally decided that they were over flowing. It is quite possible because when the carpenter raised the pitch of roof it would make the rain water will run off faster. Also the taller roof has more surface area and will catch more rain. Dawda decided that we needed to open a couple more places in the gutters for down spouting. Hopefully it will take care of the problem. We want to make the down spouts in such a fashion that we can close them off when we want to catch more rain water since they are not feeding into the reservoir. We did not really mind the gutter outside the house overflowing but one of the gutters was overflowing into the house. Not a good thing!
We also called Shiabu the electrician to come to work on some of the security lights and a one of the lights in the apartment that had not gotten reconnected after the roof job. Shiabu said that he also needed something from us. He said that he needed 10 pieces of the old metal roofing we took off the mission house. He wants the metal to make a cover for his sheep and goats. We traded him used roofing sheets for labor. I love to save money!
Amidst all this activity we were supposed to take the truck back to the electrician but we could not get it started. We even pulled the new battery out of the van and we could not get it to start. Finally we called Gomda and he came out to see what the problem was. It seems that when the electrician was working on the emergency lights he did something to the starter switch which made a short and killed the battery. We ended up taking both vehicles to him so he could fix the electrical system and adjust the clutch. We walked to the mechanic shop this evening to pick up the vehicles. Half way to the mission house I tried to turn on the lights and they would not come on. When we got to the mission house and turned the van off it would not come back on! Please! Something is still not right! We will take it back tomorrow! Maybe a fuse is blown.
One of the church members from Tombu and one from Bakjon brought their documents to us so we could make photo copies for the church. They said that there was lots of water in their areas and many of the roads were impassable. Tomorrow we are going to travel down the same road as Paul from Bakjon. We asked him if the road to Bincheratanga was closed and he said that the vehicles were still passing through. Hopefully he is right. Sometimes when they see the big cargo trucks passing they think the road is clear but a small vehicle might not be able to get through.
Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
