We had planned to leave for Nakpa around 7am but at 7:40 I was trying to call Timothy because he hadn’t arrived yet. I called to see if his motorcycle was giving him problems but there wasn’t any answer. A couple of minutes later I heard his motorcycle coming down the lane. He apologized for being late. He said the communion bread was short (running low) so he had to wait for his wife Rita to make some. Communion bread is one of the gifts we normally give to the congregations that we visit. Timothy hadn’t had time to eat so we stopped out on the main road from the house where a lady sells Bo fruit round heavy donut-like bread flavored with nutmeg). Today she was making fried bread. I had already eaten my breakfast or I would have indulged.
The way things worked out we arrived on time at Nakpa. This was the first time we had traveled south on the road to Bimbilla since arriving last month. The highway dept. has taken down the barriers that prevented us on the new paved sections of the Eastern Corridor Road which made our traveling much faster.
We were warmly welcomed by the men and women of the Church on our arrival. We noticed the new walls of the building were complete. The congregation is building a bigger building around the old building (a building within a building)so they can have a place to worship and work on the new building at the same time. The last time we visited the Church we explained we were willing to help them with matching funds for the wooden rafters and roofing sheets. Kandie and I figured they might present a request for help with the roof so we went financially prepared.
The order of worship was to have me teach the Bible class and Timothy to give a short lesson. Before we stood up to teach the song leader whispered to Timothy they were giving me 30 minutes for the lesson and 15 minutes for questions . When the 30 minutes were up I had finished the lesson and went on to answering questions. Don’t you know 15 minutes was not enough time for all the questions the brethren asked so they allowed me another 30 minutes. I finally looked at Timothy and told him this is the last question because I didn’t want to wear out my welcome. I really like questions because it helps us find out what kind of scriptural help the brethren need. At the close of the services the brethren expressed their appreciation for the lesson and the class discussion.
We met with some of the men of the congregation after services to discuss their plans for the church building . These brothers were very happy when we told them we would be leaving some money with them for the roof. Thanks go out to our supporters that make it possible for us to be able to help a congregation such as Nakpa. They also presented us with a large number of yams and a guinea fowl that we re-gifted later to Timothy for his help with the work.
That is it for now. Hope you had a good Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
