The seminar is over and according to the organizer it was a success. Seventy-nine people attended the seminar. The seminar was supposed to start at 8:15 but we are on Ghanaian time so it did not start until shortly after 9:00. They shortened the lunch break and by the afternoon we were back on schedule. One of the restaurants catered our lunch. We had fried chicken, rice, tomato oil, and coleslaw. The first topic was “Church Growth”, then Steve did his talk on Demystifying Cultural Beliefs; Witchcraft, Juju, Soothsayers and Dreams. The people loved Steve’s topic because many have given up these beliefs and practices but they still worry about them. Steve added a few tricks to the end of his lesson; he made sure to tell them how he did the tricks because he wanted to bring home the point that the amazing things they see and hear about are just trickery. Then one of the brothers did an excellent job talking about elders and deacons and church organization. Most of the churches in northern Ghana do not have elders; which is a problem and impedes growth. Paul, my brother, was the final speaker. His lesson was about baptism and the different types of baptism mentioned in the New Testament. Divine was invited to say a few words about how to get a church registered so it will be recognized by the Ghana government. The seminar was concluded with a panel of the speakers answering questions. They had so many questions. The seminar closed at 5:00.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped and filled the van up with diesel so we will be ready to head back to Yendi after worship in the morning. We ate supper at the hotel; Timothy and Divine wanted to eat their supper in their room.
There is a small kitten at the hotel so we saved our scraps from supper for him. He should sleep good tonight. Timothy said that his family does not like cats; they are sort of off limits to them and if they took a bite of the food most of his family would refuse to eat the food. Divine on the other hand said that his family loves cat; that is they love to eat cats!
Keep us in your prayers as we travel tomorrow.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
