Steve is in culture shock! He had to drive all over Tamale today and the drivers don’t know how to drive; they won’t even stop at stop lights. We saw the aftermath of an accident; a small vehicle’s front driver’s corner ran up under the belly of a big water truck. The water tanker did not seem to have much damage but the small car was crushed. The tanker was turning left onto a narrow street and the small car was trying to turn right. The street was congested with people so Steve made a detour around the mess.

We had more success in Tamale today than we did on our last trip. We finally met up with the lawyer’s secretary, paid him, and picked up the receipt. We had an HP printer and a Canon copier that have not been working well. Steve felt sure that we were going to have to buy a new HP printer but we decided to take them to the repair man to see what he could do before pronouncing them DEAD! The guy had the HP printer fixed within minutes of looking at it. It took him longer to fix the copier because it needed a new drum and something else but he could not proceed with fixing it until Steve Ok the purchase of the parts. He said he tried to call 3 times but no one answered. Fortunately, once he bought the parts it did not take him long to get it fixed. We were happy; it was much cheaper than buying new ones. Hopefully we can limp along with these for a while longer!

While we were driving around killing time the officer from the Social Welfare office called and said that the Child Center’s license had come in. We were so happy to have that in hand again. The license was stamped and dated November 25, 2025. We have been trying to get it for quite a long time. We had stopped by the office earlier in the day; all but one of the offices was locked. Majeeb, the new in-charge officer said that their office was officially on strike but that our certificate had come in and he wanted us to have it because he had promised that as soon as it arrived he would call us. He said that he knew we were worried about the license so he gave us a call. We were happy that we were still in Tamale or else we would have had to make a trip to Tamale again tomorrow!

We did some grocery shopping today so now our larder is full to overflowing! I love a well-stocked pantry! Steve volunteered to take me to the cultural center while we were killing time but it was too hot! The high temperature this afternoon was 103 degrees and it was very humid. The place we ate lunch did not have air-conditioning. It was miserably hot even though they had some fans blowing and the place is open on all sides, sort of like a pavilion. I finally went to the bathroom and splashed water on my face, hands and arm. Then I wet a paper towel and took it back to the table. That made things much better and we enjoyed our meal.

Thank you for all you do!

The Monkeyshines

The parents left me again this morning. These crazy people were up before the sun this morning! They were up before the night watchman had turned off the security lights! I think they thought that they were going to sneak out without me knowing that they were gone. At least this morning, I decided to drink my morning bottle. Mom fixed the bottle as soon as she got up. When I woke up, I was hungry! I wish I could have gotten out of jail to enjoy my bottle but Mom fed me through the bars of my cell!

I did not have to worry about being hungry today. Not only did I drink my morning bottle but the parents fixed me 2 dishes of food so I had something to snack on all day. I did not eat all the food in the dishes because my stomach is not that big! The first thing I always eat are the grapes. I am not opposed to picking the food I don’t like out of the dish and discarding it to get to the morsels that I like best! At least they did not give me any of that raw, dried, frozen, field corn but I know there is still more of it in the freezer! Lucky me!

I was more than ready to get out when I saw them drive in through the gate. Mom immediately saved me from my jail cell. She tied me right in front of the door so I could see all the goings on. Then she fixed me a bottle; I drank the whole thing and I only came up one time for air! I helped unload the truck by jumping on Mom every time she walked past me carrying something. I am so nosey! I had to look in every bag that she brought in. I found some good stuff; we got a fresh batch of grapes; perfectly ripe bananas and lots of stuff in cans, no one knows what is in those cans! I tried to smell them but they all smell the same. The cans have pretty pictures of food on them; I would delight in getting my hands and teeth on those cans and pull off all the labels. Then supper really would be a surprise!

Maybe Mom and Dad will stay home for a while!

Love, Skeeter
