The Child Center operates even when we are not here in Ghana.  We have a storeroom which we keep stocked so the workers will have what they need for the babies in our absence.  While we were gone they ran out of diaper rash ointment which we make from Shea Butter.  They also ran out of the Peanut Protein Paste which is peanut butter that is fortified with powdered milk, sugar and salt.  We give it to the malnourished children.  This afternoon we made 696 containers of diaper rash ointment and we went to the market and bought the peanuts to make the peanut butter.  Zorash, the Child Center receptionist’s mother is our peanut roasting lady.  She will not be able to roast the peanuts until tomorrow or the next day so we bought some already ground peanut paste in the market and added the milk, sugar and salt to it.  The peanut paste that we buy in the market has not been sweetened like our peanut butter.  The people here use the peanut paste to make peanut butter chicken which is delicious.  Maybe that is what I should make and take to the next potluck!

We started passing out baby clothes in the Child Center this morning.  As soon as word gets out that we are giving out clothes the mothers come in droves.  Today 87 children passed through the Center.  We know that we will be swamped until we run out of clothes.  We like to have enough to pass out for 2 weeks so we can give something to all the regular mothers.  The children come every 2 weeks.

Yesterday while we shopping we smelled something getting hot in the old van; Steve drove back to the mission house in 3rd gear and by the time he got in the driveway the clutch quit working completely.  Fortunately we were not stranded on the road in the middle of nowhere!  Gomda came to the mission house this morning and pick up the vehicle.

One of the church members from Binalado came to the mission house this morning with a plea for help with the medical expenses for his son.  His 6 or 7 year old son has been in the hospital for several days and the family has no health insurance.  The family used all the money they had and needed to finish paying the hospital bill before they could discharge the boy.  We went to the hospital to check on the child.  Thanks to your generosity we were able to pay the rest of the hospital bill for the family.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the people in Ghana.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
