We were only in Ghana for about half the month; we left on the 13th so we could attend our granddaughter Faith’s high school graduation ceremony on Thursday, the 15th. The work continues even though we are not in Yendi; the evangelists keep working with the churches and the Child Center is open in our absence.
The day before we were to fly out of Accra our laptop crashed! We were unable to send you a message letting you know that we were leaving Ghana. Shortly after we got back to the states we took it to the computer repair shop in Huntsville; they pronounced it “DEAD”! They could not even recover the data that was on the computer. We will have to purchase a new one before we return back to Ghana.
Our trip back to the states was thankfully uneventful. There was one small incident at the Accra airport that took place after we had checked in. While at the gate I was contacted and instructed to follow the airport officer down into the bowels of the airport where the luggage was sorted and loaded into aircraft containers. The officer questioned me about a small heavy piece of luggage that we had tied a rope around for a handle. He wanted to know what was in the cardboard box wrapped with plastic that was so heavy; it weighed almost 50 pounds. It was an ancient grinding stone that Kandie bought in one of the villages. The two men who were investigating the situation were surprised that we wanted a grinding stone but they were very understanding and allowed it to go on the plane. The stone arrived safely in Atlanta and did not cause us any trouble when we went through customs.
I sadly have to announce that my brother Tom, my last surviving brother passed away suddenly on the 27th of this month. Kandie and I spent 3 nights in the ICU waiting room with Tom’s wife and children before he died. Tom was a member of the Church so we know his soul is in the custody of the Lord but we are never ready to give your loved ones up. We were happy that we were in the states to help his family. He lived in Alabama. Please keep his family in your prayers.
Timothy Niligrini wrote to tell me that 27 men attended the monthly Church Leaders class in May. He also reported that 3 people were baptized and 3 more people were restored to the Church. Please remember these men in your prayers.
Timothy Niligrini contacted me giving the results of the June Monthly class at Kulkpeni. There were 23 men who attended. Timothy said there were 6 people restored to the Church and no baptisms. Timothy said to send his greeting to everyone.
By the time you receive this Monthly Notes, Kandie and I will be making our way to or have already arrived in Ghana. We fly on July 16th. We have some business to attend to in Accra before we fly up to Tamale. Please keep us in your prayers!!!
I apologize for sending this Monthly Notes out so late. We were very busy in early July as we made our yearly trek to Limestone Bible Camp and spent 8 days; 6 of these days I was the camp nurse. We love going to camp and being with the staff and kids. A week before going to camp we began the task of tearing our deck on the house down to bare bones. Our kids and grandchildren helped us. We got back from camp on Friday before we were to leave on Wednesday for Ghana and resumed work on the deck. We finished the floor the day before we were to leave. The railing will have to wait until we return in December. I forgot to mention that Kandie and I taught VBS at Bethel. Kandie helped teach at Mt. Carmel and we also attended West Hobbs Street’s VBS in June.
We thank you for your support. It is nice to hear that some of you are able to follow the work via the Yendi Notes. Be sure to tell anyone interested in getting the Yendi Notes by email to send us their name and email address and we will add them to the list.
In His service,
Stephen & Kandie Taylor
