Today began with Perry and Kandie gathering all of the large cooking pots to prepare them for use at the seminar next week.  Then they made a trip into Yendi to run errands this morning, and to purchase a baby walker.  Steve and I worked at the Child Center, which is open from 9 to 12.  There were eleven babies who came in this morning.  The baby walker was given to a mother whose child has some developmental problems, and was unable to sit unassisted.  This will give her some freedom to get her work done at home and still have the baby in a safe position.  It was so touching to see how grateful this mother was for something most of us can purchase with very little difficulty.  The walker cost the equivalent of about $80 US dollars, which is completely unaffordable for all but the wealthiest Ghanaians.

Following lunch, Kandie and I decided to do a little fabric shopping.  We both have a weakness for beautiful quilting fabric, which is much more affordable here than in the states.  We visited a lady who sells fabric from her home.  She pulled every single piece out for us to look through.  After making our purchases, we stopped by the lady’s house who bakes bread and ordered 525 loaves of bread for the seminar next week.

Shortly after Kandie and I returned, all four of us left to go into town.  Today was market day in Yendi.  The market included local vendors who are there every day, along with the traveling vendors who work on a circuit, and are only in Yendi every sixth day.  The market was quite an experience, full of noise, activity, people buying and selling, children everywhere, and all sorts of sights, sounds, and smells (some not so pleasant – the meat area!).  We were able to find everything we needed and returned home for a quick supper and then back on the road for Wednesday services.

We traveled to the village of Jegrido, which is about a 40-minute drive from Yendi.  The brethren were already gathered on benches which had been moved just outside the church building.  There were about 55 total in attendance.  Perry spoke the message, and Timothy interpreted for him.  The people were very friendly and welcoming, including the dog who seemed quite interested in Perry’s message as well.  Having been in a few of the church buildings by now, I am certain that it was much cooler to be sitting outside, but the bugs were vicious tonight even though we had used our bug spray.  I have to admit that I was trying to listen to the message, but I was sitting behind where Perry and Timothy were standing, and it was pretty funny to see them constantly swatting, and slapping, and shaking their shirts as these bugs seemed to relish going down inside your clothes.  In any case, we survived, and have returned home for the evening safely.

Thanks to all for your prayers.
