We spent the day in Tamale. We needed to go to the bank so we did all of our errands first and made the bank our last stop before we headed back to Yendi.
Steve has been trying to figure out how to take the headlight lens off the blue van. The bulb in the left turn signal has a short and blinks very quickly when it is turned on. Steve finally decided to get some help. Isaac, the air condition repair guy, sometimes has to take the headlights off to get to the AC unit so we stopped by his shop first thing this morning and it took him all of 5 minutes to show Steve where the retaining bolt was and take the headlight off. They re-secured the bulb and “Walla!”, it was working again!
Steve also needed new wiper blades for all the vehicles; you know the rainy season is almost upon us and driving in the rain is in our future! We also went to several shops hunting for groceries. We found Mozzarella cheese and we also found some corn tortilla chips. That is a first for us to find them in Tamale. We were afraid they might be stale so we bought a bag and tried them. They were perfect, lightly salted with no other seasonings. We were so hungry for them that we almost ate the whole bag! Life’s simple pleasures! We also found canned green beans and canned chickpeas.
As always, we bought fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. We picked up some communion juice too. The shop that we found the communion juice in was a long way away from where we parked the van. Parking in Tamale is a nightmare! We bought 36 – 1-liter containers. How to get things back to the vehicle can be tricky but usually if you look around there is a lady standing around waiting to carry your load for you. That is the way they make a living. The lady loaded the containers in a big metal head pan and followed Steve to the van. Steve paid her well for her service. I made my way leisurely back to the van because I still had shopping to do; I stopped at the fruit vendors. By the time I met up with Steve, I was loaded down; my purse was overflowing with limes and mangos and I had a couple small bags in my hands.
I met Steve at the bank so he helped me carry my bags into the bank. It was terribly hot again today; I checked the weather app on Steve’s phone for the high temperature in Tamale; it said that depending upon where you were in Tamale the high temperature was from 103 degrees to 106 degrees. Whichever number you pick , it was too hot to be outside today but alas at times it cannot be helped!
We got back to the mission house at 5:30 pm. We ate in Tamale so I got the night off from cooking! Yah!
Please pray that our area gets rain; the leaves on the Teak trees are drooping!

The Monkeyshines
When the parents have been gone all day, I am always anxious to see what goodies they brought for me. Sometimes it is a good surprise and then sometimes it is like; WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Well, today was one of those “what were you thinking days”!
I got a rubber chicken! Yes, you heard me right; a rubber chicken! It was not even a full chicken; it was part of a chicken! It was the leg and thigh of the chicken. It was ugly and scary and it squeaked! What do you think they were thinking when they bought it? Let’s buy Skeeter the ugliest toy ever produced; I am sure he is going to like it because when he bites it, it makes a squeaking noise? No! That was not a good idea! Mom said that she wanted to find the toy that was the easiest to bite to produce a sound. Dad saw her in the store biting on various dog toys to find the easiest one to squeak! Well, it just happened to be a chicken leg! She went right past the cute fluffy sweet toys and headed straight for the rubber chicken legs! I am going to look for that squeaker and pull it out! I have been trying to tell you that she is a little on the nutty side!
But we can’t help but love her anyway!
Always be thankful for the little things even if they are weird!
Love, Skeeter
