It is hard to believe this is the third Sunday in September already but it is. Today we were scheduled to visit the congregation at Bakpaba. This is one of the bigger congregations located on the Bimbilla Road south of Yendi. When Timothy Niligrini arrived he asked if we had any more communion juice because some brother had come to his house and bought the last container. We were out so before we left Yendi we had to run down a couple of boxes of grape juice to take with us. Instead of loading one bench I loaded two this morning. Timothy said the congregation at Duuni, just up the road from Bakpaba asked for some communion bread and I had promised this congregation a bench when we visited them several weeks ago so we killed two birds with one stone. We left the bench and the bread with someone at the roadside and drove down the road to our destination.
We were excited to see the Eastern Corridor Road construction has made a lot of progress in the past few weeks. It was so nice to see the limestone gravel they are using to build up the road bed so it can be paved later. This road when completed will shorten our travel time to these congregations located south of Yendi.
Upon our arrival we had time to go visit the chief and pay our respects. When we finished talking to the chief and his wife we went back to the church building that is a short walk from the chief’s house.
For services they combined the bible class and preaching time but instead of preaching we used the time for bible study. The subject dealt with the Hadean world ( waiting place of souls) and how it discredits the idea that witches are believed by some people here to move from their physical bodies into the Astral World at night causing chaos and death that eventually comes to the real life villages. The same goes for the soothsayers being able to communicate with dead ancestors to find out who is a witch or why sickness, death, and other problems come to a family house or to the village. If you are a daily reader of the Notes you may remember I taught a similar lesson on this subject several weeks ago. When we find a “hot” topic like this we try to preach the subject so the regular membership can ask questions. There was some great discussion during the question time.
Before leaving the church building we were presented with a head pan full of new yams the farmers had grown. We had a young man and young lady that asked for a ride; we had a full pickup for half the trip back to the house. After arriving back to the house we took a few of the yams and gave the lion’s portion to Timothy for his house.
It wouldn’t be long before we need to leave for bible study so I will close for the day. Hope you have a good Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
