Donkey came to the mission house at 6:30 this morning. Please, fortunately I was already up and going. I was trying to cut the borders for my quilt. Donkey had not picked up his pay the other day; he was here but he left before we could pay him. We tried to call him yesterday but he did not answer. We were afraid that he had gotten sick or something. Zorash and Mr. Iddrisu both tried to call him but they could not get him. He said that he had to leave because the masons were at his house molding blocks and that they had called him for something or the other. At least he was not sick. He also wanted to borrow one of the 4×4 square water containers because the well near his house was running short of water so they were saving it for drinking. He is going to buy a load of water so they will have water to mold more blocks and to water the blocks that are already made. Donkey does not always get our English. I had to ask him 3 different ways before he realized I wanted to know what he was going to do with the blocks once they were molded. He is going to add some rooms onto his house. His son Yahaya is now working as a policeman so he is getting a regular paycheck. Donkey said that he is helping him financially with the building.
I told Donkey that I was surprised that he was not at his house celebrating the ending of Ramadan (the month long fast). He said that it had not finished for them; they had one day left before it would finish. He said that they looked for the moon last night but they did not see it so they had an extra day of fasting. There are sects of Muslims and they do not all do the same things at the same time. There are even slight differences in the time of day that they pray. They all pray 5 times but some pray at 12:00 and others at 12:30; it all depends upon which mosque you pray at.
Steve only has 1 ½ credits left on his continuing education credits for his nursing license. I told him that if he got after it, he could finish them tonight before he goes to bed. He said he was considering it but I think his brain is pretty much fried! Tomorrow and Monday are holidays; I don’t think there is anything he can do toward the renewal until Tuesday anyway. Maybe it is time for a break!
The weekend is upon us again! Enjoy yours and stay safe!

I am getting very good at catching things; well, I can catch things if it is something that I want! I love getting little sips of Dad’s Cokes and Sprites! Yum! I love playing with the bottles afterwards because there is always a little flavor left on the lid. This morning ,I was playing in the big mango tree in the front yard. Mom brought out a Coke bottle; they are plastic bottles. She asked me if I wanted the bottle. How silly of her; of course I wanted the bottle. I was far enough above her head that she could not reach me and I could not reach her. She told me she was going to throw it up to me. I was ready! She tossed it up and I caught it on the very first try! I am not sure who was prouder, me or Mom! Let me let you in on a little secret; Mom is a terrible thrower! The main reason I miss catching her pitches is because she is so awful! Her aim is so bad that sometimes I have to jump 2 feet up in the air to catch what she is throwing! It is a fun game all the same!
I got kicked out of Mom’s shirt today! Her clothes were oversized today. I pretended that I was going to take a nap but when I got inside, I stuck my head out of the arm hole and tried to grab stuff off of the sewing machine. I had no intention of taking a nap; I was using her as a vehicle to get to the goodies on her table! I wallowed all over! When I am inside her shirt, I am off of my leash so I was trying to figure out a way to climb out of her sleeve and escape. She kept pushing me back inside. There was no way she could get any sewing done so she finally made me get out. I was not happy about that so I tried to pull on her clothes and get back in. She moved the sewing machine to the other end of her table and that was the end of my fun for the day!
Gives new meaning to the saying, “I have a trick up my sleeve!” Mom had a Skeeter up her sleeve!
Love, Skeeter
