This morning Paul and I worked on the receipts for his bookkeeping. He had lots of things that he needed to pay us back for; plane tickets, hotels, gas etc. About the time we thought that we had everything all tallied up we would think of something else that needed to have a receipt. Many of the vendors here in Ghana do not have receipts so we carry a receipt book around with us so we can write the expenditure down shortly after we pay for it or else we will forget! I think they call it “Old Age”! Ha!
Red came first thing this morning to install the new battery on Paul’s truck and to work on the clutch. They are trying to get it road worthy enough to get the inspection done in Tamale on Monday. Red had only been here long enough to install an inside lock on Skeeter’s condo before it started to rain. It rained heavily the rest of the morning. Donkey and Red sat on the veranda visiting while they watched the rain. If we had realized that it was going to rain, we could have moved the red truck out of the garage and pushed Paul’s truck inside so Red would have had a dry place to work but the rain just snuck up on us!
This afternoon we went to the market; Paul also needed to go to town to get the SIM card worked on for his phone so he jumped in the truck with us. The phone office that Paul needed to visit was not open today and they will not be open tomorrow either. He will go back on Monday to see if they can help him get the chip to work again.
We did not realize that today was Yendi’s big market day. Paul was the first to notice the large crowds of people that were in the market. We wove our way through the hordes of people and bought the vegetables that we needed. There were so many people in the market that we did our shopping as quickly as possible! Not only were we dodging people and vendors, we were dodging the mud puddles. The market floor is just dirt and stones so when it gets wet it becomes very slippery.
Presently Steve is at the tire shop getting the tire fixed; I think it is the same one that had a flat with Paul and Red yesterday. They did not take the wheel off the tire and actually patch it, rather they plugged the hole. Those plugs do not seem to want to hold on these rough roads. Steve wants to drive that truck tomorrow to Mpeasum so he wants to make sure that the leak is fixed.
The electricity is off and we are running on the generator; what else is new?
Take care and have a great day!

The Monkeyshines
Guess what? There is a stranger in the compound! It is my Uncle Paul; he is my mom’s oldest brother! Poor Mom, she grew up with 3 brothers! Well, when I first met Uncle Paul, I was a little bit afraid of him but then the more I was around him the better I liked him. He fed me raisins which are one of my all-time favorite snacks! I got in his lap and gave him monkey kisses around his neck! I was enjoying his company! But then it started to rain! I do not like the rain so Mom took me inside the house. It was not good for me! Uncle Paul was sitting at the table with Mom; they were passing papers back and forth and I could not take it. I just knew that he was taking things away from Mom and I wanted to show him who was boss! I jumped on his back and scratched his neck with my feet when I jumped off! Uncle Paul scolded me! I went back to my perch and was good for a little while. Then I jumped on Uncle Paul’s arm and nipped him. He had 2 drops of blood; he cleaned it off with a hand-sanitizing wipe and showed me that I had hurt him and I retreated to my perch! Mom moved the table so I could not get hold of him but the next time he got up out of his chair I jumped and hit the chair and sent it across the room. It all went downhill from there! Uncle Paul was upset; I was upset; Mom was upset! I was so upset that I was having stress incontinence! Mom tried to take me to the back veranda but it was raining so heavily that I would have gotten wet if I was put out there so she put me on the front veranda. I was able to sit on top of the door and keep an eye on Mom and Uncle Paul but I was far enough away that I could not grab Uncle Paul or Donkey or Red. Donkey and Red were also sitting on the veranda waiting for the rain to clear.
I was happy that the rain stopped and I could go back to my condo! Once I got back in my condo, I did not want to come out again. I spent a part of the afternoon in my condo.
I hope that tomorrow will be a better day for me and Uncle Paul! I am going to try not to bite or scratch him but it is such a temptation!
Better Days ahead!
Love, Skeeter
