Shaibu, the electrician was here at 7:00 this morning. We told him to come early but we did not expect him to be here that early. Steve hired him to put in a big security light at Kulkpeni on the church property. Some of the members who have to walk across the property in the dark on their way to services asked if we could put up a light. The lights are expensive by Ghanaian standards, we knew there was no way the congregation could gather the money for a light. It took a couple hours for them to get the light installed.
We planned on cooking the grain for the weaning mix this morning but when Meri came to work she was sick. We sent her home. She thinks she has malaria but she has been taking the malaria medicine since Monday and she still feels bad. Steve told her that she needed to go back to the hospital and see if they could give her something else. She is pregnant and they might not do anything else for her.
We have been trying to find the receipt for the purchase of the mission property. We have part of the receipts but cannot find the rest of the receipts. We have the sight plans from the Town and Country Planning office. To complicate matters both of the chiefs the land was purchased from have died. Zorash knew someone who knew someone. As soon as we closed the Child Center we went to town to talk to one of the elders of the chief that sold the land. He was a very old man. He said he remembered Mama and Papa (Royce and Cindy Reynolds) and he remembered when they gave a grinding mill to his village. He told us the easiest way to get the receipts was to go to the “House of Chiefs” and ask someone to go through the files and make copies of the originals. Who knew they kept receipts in the House of Chiefs. He even gave us the name of the man who kept the files. We found the man and told him what we needed. He said that it would take hours to look through the files. We told him that we would help search! The files were stacked in a huge wardrobe type cabinet. They had been there for years. The receipts we were looking for were from 1996 and 2001. Ours were by no means the oldest land papers on file. It is a good thing we are not allergic to dust! He agreed to let us help him search. There was a method to the madness. The files were sorted according to the areas of Yendi. We had to search through 2 piles because the land was purchased from 2 different chiefs from 2 different areas. Zorash helped us look. While we were searching Zorash ran across the land papers for her own family’s house. She was so excited. Her father purchased the land in 1987. Her father passed away several years ago and they have never found the papers. We also found the papers we were looking for. Oh! Happy Day! We made copies of the documents. It was a good day’s work! It is such a relief off our minds to get the papers. Now we can proceed to the next step in the process.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
