It is the tradition here that after worship service the members are given the opportunity to make prayer requests and then one of the men will pray for them. Yesterday a young man said he wanted to thank the Lord for taking care of him while he was working in the farm. He went on to explain that he had gone to his farm with his puppy and was weeding his peanuts. He had just finished a row when he heard his puppy yelp! A snake had bitten the puppy; the puppy died. These people are so sincere!
A three year old boy was brought to the Center this morning. He was not walking just right and he had a bit of a speech problem. His mother said that 4 days ago the child’s fever went very high. She was worried about the child and told his father that she wanted to take him to the hospital. His father told her that he had to go out for a while and that when he came back he would take him to the hospital. The child’s fever went so high that he started having convulsions. The mother said she did not know what to do. She said that she thought the child had died. She ran and got the neighbor man to come and help her. He told her the child was having a seizure and they rushed the child to the hospital. The child continued to seize for a couple hours. He was in the hospital for 4 days and he has obviously sustained some brain damage. So sad!
This afternoon we went to Kpamang with Divine to buy the pigs we will use at the seminar. Divine needed to sell them early so he would have the money to buy a used motorcycle. He is going to keep them for us until the seminar. We gave him the money for their feed. We bought five; last year we bought four but this year’s pigs were not quite as big as last years.
While we were there we took a video of the dam that we helped the village dig last year. We broke one of our main rules of survival today, “Don’t get in the water!” As we were walking to the dam we got into a flooded area and we had to muck through nasty water! The grass was almost waist high and we were more worried about snakes than the nasty water! Had we known that the land was flooded we would have worn our rubber boots. Of all things I had on flip flops, can you imagine! How yucky my feet were when we got back to the mission house. We also got the truck stuck; thank goodness for 4 wheeled drive! Divine and I also did our part by pushing. Now, back to the dam; it is beautiful and there is so much water. Divine said that the fish have already come to the dam; he and his children caught some. He also said that a crocodile has come to the dam. He said that if the crocodile behaves himself they will let it live but if it gets aggressive the crocodile will feel the gun. Excuse me why would you wait to see if the crocodile was aggressive; wouldn’t that mean it attacked your child or one of your animals? There are also lots of frogs in the dam. The village is so happy!
Thank you for all your help! Without your generosity the work would not go on.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
