We got word this morning that one of our dear Ghanaian friends passed away.  Dr. Samuel Obeng died last night.  He lived in Kumasi.  The funeral arrangements have not been completed yet.  Some of his children live outside the country.  I am sure many people will be traveling to the funeral.  Bro. Obeng was one of the first converts in Ghana.  He was instrumental in establishing the Ghana Bible College and was in charge of it for several years.  Bro. Obeng secured land and set up a park for the children in Kumasi.  He has had several schools and has help lead numerous people to Christ.  Our family first met Bro. Samuel and Sister Comfort in 1970 when I was 14 years old.  When we stepped onto the tarmac at the very small Kumasi airport Bro. Samuel and Sister Comfort were standing at the gate waiting on our arrival.  When my dad, Royce, introduced us to the Obengs he said, “And this is Sister Comfort and she was truly a comfort to me when I made my first trip to Ghana!”  It is hard to believe that will have been 47 years ago in September.  He will be truly missed!  Please pray for his family.

Gomda, the mechanic is working on the old van.  It is not charging the battery and he is having a hard time figuring out why.   He does not think it is the alternator.  More than likely it is an electrical problem.  Usually given enough time Gomda can figure out the problem.

Divine, the evangelist stopped by for a visit this afternoon.  We bought a couple more pigs from him.   They are small and the price was good.  Divine is going to keep them for us so they will be big enough for the seminar next year.  Divine was a little short on the cash he needed to buy the used motorcycle and buying pigs was preferable to giving him a loan.  Seems like a “win –win situation”.

Red finished the gates to repair the cement wall that fell down earlier this year.  Nazo is in the process of painting them.  Nazo is a messier painter than I am and he is using oil paint which is hard to clean up.  He did well yesterday.  He stayed under the mango tree and off the patio but today for some reason he moved onto the patio.  We will have to make him move when he starts painting again.

It is almost time for Bible Study so I will close for now.  Take care and have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
