Five o’clock rolled around pretty fast for Kandie and me Tuesday morning. We had to stop at Walmart for an item before heading on to Huntsville airport by 6 am for my 8 am flight. My flights from Huntsville to Atlanta to JFK went along very well. We were 30 minutes late leaving JFK due to de-icing the airplane but I figured I still would have plenty of time to check on a domestic ticket from Accra to Tamale that day. In Accra, I was glad when I saw my fourth and final piece of luggage come out on the luggage carousel. After talking with Red and Iddrisu I went through customs without to much inconvenience. From there I hired a couple of guys to push my luggage out of the international terminal and up the hill then over to the domestic terminal where I was able to purchase my plane ticket to Tamale. I was waiting on Red at the Tamale airport at 12:20 pm Ghana time (6:20am CST).
I didn’t have to wait very long on Red to show up. I think he and I both thought it might take me longer to get to Tamale so we both were surprised. After we both asked about each other’s families we headed in to Tamale to get something to eat at Swad’s Restaurant where both of us ate fried chicken and fried rice. I stopped at the bank for some business and we then went to several auto parts stores for Red to look for a big 30mm socket for his tipper truck. As we were leaving Tamale, Red noticed his daughter Pa-Na walking along the road near her school where she boards. She greeted her father and me. She also managed to get Red to give her some spending money. Sound familiar. On the way to Yendi as we passed through Kulkpeni. We stopped at Timothy Niligrini’s house but he wasn’t around. We greeted his wife, Rita, and drove on to town. I dropped off Red and was at the house by 5 pm. I was not feeling well. Before we landed in Accra they gave us a quiche for breakfast. It wasn’t long after eating it I got THAT feeling and it stayed with me off and on most of the day. I was in bed by 8pm and only remember walking up when the electricity went off and came back on.
I slept a full 12 hours last night. I was still a little jet lagged this morning but I made myself get up and greet the workers as they came in for the morning. Everyone was asking how our family and friends were faring and of course I passed on the greeting from all of you to them. Things were a little slow at the child center but there were enough tasks for me to do in between times. I was measuring for a tailpipe for the red pickup and looking at an area to put another cement pad to hold another poly tank to increase our water storage capacity for the house. Iddrisu ordered 100 bags of water for the workers to drink and for us to filter so we helped to unload the water when it arrived. I also worked on a paper Kandie needed for a presentation at our grandchildren’s school.
I still have to get the vehicles running. The old van’s battery is down and the green pickup has a flat front tire so that will be on the agenda in the morning.
I will close for now. Thanks so much for the prayers given on our behalf. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. All the folks over here send their greetings!
In His service,
Stephen Taylor
