We finished plumbing the new poly tank this afternoon.  We have one small leak but we don’t really know how to fix it so we are going to leave it for now.   It drips every 34 seconds and yes I sat there and counted the seconds.  At first it was dripping every 17 seconds; that was totally not acceptable!  Ha!  As we speak that new tank is filling.  We got a good rain yesterday but our water catching system had gotten filled with leaves so we did not harvest as much rain water as we would have liked to.  We cleaned it out and it is now ready for the next rain.

Mr. Iddrisu has started harvesting his field peas; they are sort of like black-eyed peas.  This afternoon eight children were helping pick the peas.  The oldest one was about 9 years old.  When they came to the mission house carrying bags of beans on their heads we stopped them and gave then a sack full of hard candy and chewing gum.  When they saw the candy they started dancing around saying, “Toffees, Toffees”.  Mr. Iddrisu divided the candy out amongst them.  Luckily everyone had a pocket to put the candy in.   It was a happy day for them.

The traveling salesman that stutters came back today.  We knew he would but we don’t mind.  When Steve told me that he was here again he said, “Your friend has come back to visit.”  This time he had cologne, back braces, a vibrating belt that was supposed to pull the fat off your stomach.   You are supposed to collect your urine and add a little water to it and see the fat floating on top which would prove that the belt was working.  Please, does this sound like the “snake oil salesmen” of days gone by in the states.  Of course I had to buy something so I bought a back brace for Mr. Iddrisu; he needed a new one.  I also bought an emergency battery pack so you can use your cell phone or other small device when the electricity goes off.

Speaking of electricity going off we are sitting in darkness as I am writing the notes.  We are going to wait a few minutes before we turn on the generator because sometimes they are just checking something or testing something.  Seriously no one knows why the lights go off so much.

Timothy Niligrini, the evangelist / tailor, finished making the aprons and now he has started making children’s shirts out of the scraps.  They are too cute.

Another of the children that had the hair lip repairs came back to the Center this morning.  We gave the mother the pictures we took of the baby before he had his surgery.  We took more pictures so we would have before and after pictures.  She is so grateful that he got the hair lip fixed.  Thanks to all of you who give us money to help with these special cases.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie

P.S.   Hope you are having a nice Labor Day weekend!
