First thing this morning Kandie washed a load of clothes for Jack because we planned to go to Tamale in the afternoon. After going though the bucket ordeal of fetching water (because I still have not got the cistern pump hooked up yet) she got it knocked out fairly quick. After that I went up to the post office and SSNIT office to get some info needed for business purposes later this week in Tamale.
By the time I finished with my business up town Kandie and Jack were already down at the child center with Meri and Zorash seeing babies. We had several saddening cases this morning. One was a 2-3 year old girl that appears to be blind. Her mother said she had convulsions earlier in her life which left her unable to walk until the mother worked with her and taught her to walk again. The other case was a little guy that was very underweight for his age. When asking the mother what she fed the child this morning her reply was tea. In fact she said tea and nursing the child was all he was getting. I restrained myself and only chastised the mother for not feeding the child nutritious foods that she is capable of providing for him. We will see how he likes the weaning mix when they return in two weeks. Oh, I forgot that we had a little orphan baby boy that we have been feeding that came back today to get formula. He was having some breathing difficulties and needed to be seen by the doctor at the hospital. The problem was the child doesn’t have insurance and the family didn’t have the money to take him to the hospital. Thanks to those of you who have given money for the babies. I supplied the money for the insurance scheme and for a hospital exam. The grandmother caring for the child was happy for the financial help.
We ate a quick lunch and while we were trying to leave for Tamale Shiabu, the electrician, showed up to change a fuse box outside on the veranda. After we got him started on the job I paid him and we were off to pick up Red who would drive us to Tamale.
In Tamale we went to a couple of places before going to the hotel. We first stopped at the accountant for some business. From there we visited several grocery stores to buy some supplies; especially canned tuna. Jack went to Melcom’s department store and purchased a cheap guitar so he could harvest the strings to use for his good guitar. Later we went to out to get something to eat.
We will have more for you tomorrow so I will close for now. Have a good day!
In his service,
Stephen, Kandie, and Jack
