Hi guys, this is Parker typing to everyone today. Hope y’all are doing great. To start off today we woke up about 8:30. We all got ready and went down to the Child Center to get it all set up and ready. We worked in the Center from 9:00 till 12:00 and a lot of women came in today. I was in charge of passing out Kuli-kuli; that’s just a little snack that tastes like peanut butter and they love it. In the middle of all that, Skeeter was just running around on his leash doing his own thing; messing around with his toys. Skeeter is getting used to me. While I fed him his bottle, he was doing good until I tried to lift his bottle a little higher, Skeeter thought I was taking it away from him; let’s just say he was not happy about that and nipped me! Skeeter also got Taylor and Mom today; he is an equal opportunity nipper! But he seems to be getting used to us.
Lunch was odd! Strange food; black-eyed peas with palm oil, sour green leaves with gourd seeds, fried yams and hot sauce. The peas were good; I had a couple servings.
After lunch I went over my lesson for the evening preaching. My lesson was “Don’t Lose Sight of God!” I discussed; Lust of the flesh; Lust of the eyes; and Pride of life.
We took the green truck to the village. This is the first time in my life that I have gotten to ride in the back of a truck! There is a wooden bench in the back of the truck that 3 people can sit on! Taylor and Goosie (my grandmother) rode in the back with me! The ride was good until we got off the pavement and hit the dirt roads! The view was beautiful; it made me realize that I was sitting in the middle of West Africa; everything was nice and green because of the recent rains. I tried to take pictures of the beautiful countryside but I am not sure how they will turn out.
The village that we went to tonight was Nalongni. We got to meet the chief of the village. We also went to visit Joseph Kumasi, one of the first church leaders of the congregation. Joseph had a stroke years ago and is mostly disabled. We gave him a monetary gift to help with whatever he needs. All the kids in the village were so excited to see us! We brought soccer balls from the states that were donated by Ms. Pam, so that we could have them to give to the kids in the villages that we visit. When we gave them the soccer ball everyone started clapping!
The people listened very well to my lesson and the kids were pretty quiet. It was weird because after I taught my lesson they opened the class for a question-and-answer session. I actually like teaching with an interpreter because it gave me a moment to figure out what I was going to say next. One of the men made a comment; he said that my lesson really opened his eyes to what makes us sin!
Mom was not happy with us riding in the back of the truck to Nalongni but she was really not happy when we got back in the bed of the truck for the ride to Yendi because it had started to sprinkle and it was thundering and lightning! There were too many of us to fit in the truck anyway so we decided to tough it out and ride in the rain! We actually enjoyed ourselves! The rain was a little cold! When we stopped and dropped Timothy at his house we (Taylor and I) decided to stand up for the rest of the ride. We were on paved roads. Mom was just sure that she was not going to go home with all of her children! By the time we got to Timothy’s house the rain had stopped.
Supper was good, chicken fingers, dough balls, corn and mashed potatoes.
It is time to hit the hay! Good night!
In HIS Service,
Parker, Taylor, Charity, Steve, Kandie and Skeeter
