We spent the whole day trying to plumb the new poly tank we bought last year. We have to get it plumbed so we can harvest the rain water while it is still raining. We will save the water and use it in the dry season. You know it is one of those jobs that you think that you will be able to do in one day but you end up running into problems and one day goes to two and two days go to three. Presently we are using 2 poly tanks; an upper and a lower tank. The lower tank is a holding tank and the upper tank is where we get our water pressure from. The plan is for us to plumb the two lower tanks into the same pump and send the water to the upper tank. The first order of business was to pump rain water from the reservoir into the lower tank and then fill the upper tank so we would have plenty of water in case the project takes a long time or we run into difficulty. Pumping the rain water out of the reservoir would have been easy if someone had not broken the pipe coming out of the reservoir and did not tell us. We figure that one of the guys stepped on it while they were painting. It took us most of the morning to get that problem fixed and the pump re-primed. We noticed the lower tank had several inches of dirt in the bottom. We decided that we needed to clean it out before we plumped it. It has dirt in it because when the water works people work on the main pipe lines they do not flush out the lines before they let it flow to the house. We were making good headway this afternoon but we ran out of pipe and today is a holiday and none of the building supply stores are open. We dry fitted everything we could and called it a day.
This morning Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo both sent their children with gifts of rice balls and peanut butter soup this morning. The first gift arrived shortly after 7:00. I asked Steve if he wanted rice balls for breakfast; he declined my offer. It was so sweet of them to share their feast with us. They also added a special treat to the soup; a 1 inch cube of liver. Yum! The liver is a prized piece of meat and naturally you would share the best with your friends. We in turn sent a bag of candy and a monetary gift to their wives. We washed the bowl they sent the food in and put our gift inside the bowl. There was far too much food for us to eat so we shared the food with the deaf man that lives beside us. He was thrilled with the food!
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. Our son Aaron and wife Melissa have added a picture glossary to the website. It is wonderful. If you get a chance take a look at it. The website is www.ghanamissionfund.org.
