Steve went with Zorash to see the MCE (Municipal Chief Executive) of the Yendi area this morning. Zorash has been petitioning the MCE for a new lamp and housing unit for the street lights to replace the one that has been out for a long time. She said she has called him, stopped by the office and even called his secretary begging for 2 new lamps for the street lights. This morning the secretary called her and said that he was in the office. Zorash took Steve with her in hopes that an American’s face might get him to help her with the lamp. Well, it helped a little; she wanted 2 lamps but he only gave her one. She was happy with one because it will help light up the area around her house.
We sorted and organized the storage room / work room that is just outside our bedroom. Dad originally made the room as a private sitting /breakfast room but we have never used it for anything except tools and storage. There are a couple of work benches as well as lots of shelving units. We needed to get everything up off the floor so that Meri could sweep and wet mop the room. We have not had a chance to clean the room since we came back and everything was very dusty. It looks nice now! Wonder how long it will last?
We have an old recliner that reclines just fine but when you try to get out of it the leg rest will not go down. I have had to climb out of that chair a number of times. Do you wonder why I keep sitting in the chair? Well, I keep thinking that one day I am going to figure out what is wrong with it and fix it. When we were in town, we bought heavy duty grease and Steve greased it very well. It opened and shut just fine when no one was in it but the moment it detected weight it locked up. We decided that we do not really need that chair so we are going to give it to Red the next time he comes to the compound; he might be able to figure out what is wrong with it and if he can’t he will still be happy to have a chair!
Mr. Iddrisu is still painting on the inside of the round houses! Please, he is the slowest painter we have ever seen! He has been 2 solid weeks painting the houses; they are not even that big; about 20 ft. circles. The walls are low so he does not have to climb on a ladder to paint; he was able to push the desk and beds to the center of the room so he is not painting around anything so we have no idea why it is taking so long. Hopefully, he will finish it next week!
Take care and have a great day!

When Mom was cleaning today, she found a bright yellow tennis ball; yellow is my favorite color but when she tried to give me the ball, I gave her the stink eye! I like a ball but there was something wrong with that ball! It had a huge “X” cut in it! It was creepy looking down into the middle of the tennis ball; mom put a button inside the ball and told me I could stick my hand inside it and get the button! I was having none of that scary ordeal! I was born in the night but not last night! Sticking your hand in a hole is a good way to get a scorpion sting! Besides, if I put my hand in and made a fist with my hand it might get stuck!
You know they have a story here in Ghana about the greedy monkey! The hunters knew the greedy monkey was in the forest but he was so quick and smart that they were not able to catch him. He stole food from their grain bins and he dug up the yam tubers; took a bite and left them to rot on the ground. The hunters needed to catch the greedy monkey so they devised a plan to catch the monkey. They found a nice round calabash gourd; they cut a hole in the top of the gourd that was just big enough for a greedy monkey to put his hand in. They then put food inside the calabash gourd. The gourd was secured to a tree in the forest where the greedy monkey played. The greedy monkey watched the gourd for a couple days but he was so greedy that he could not help but put his hand in the gourd to get the food. When the monkey put his hand in and got a fist full of food it would not come out of the hole. The monkey tried and tried to get his hand out of the gourd without dropping the food. He was so greedy that he refused to drop the food and his hand would come out of the gourd. Because the monkey was so greedy the hunters were able to easily catch him.
The moral is: “Don’t be a greedy monkey”!
Love, Skeeter
