We got up a little earlier than normal this morning so we could go for a walk before it got too hot.  As soon as we got back from our walk we headed to the lumber yard to select the boards that the roofer is going to need for putting the roof on the new rooms at Kulkpeni.  The carpenter that is doing the roof is also going to make the doors and windows for the building.  We bought so many boards that we could not haul them in one trip.  We were happy when we got out to Kulkpeni and found Timothy, Tichak and Matthew waiting to help unload the lumber.

As we were leaving the compound this morning the son of Abdulai Fusheni came with a message from his father.  Abdulai wanted us to come to his house and visit him.  Abdulai is a double amputee.  He was in a motor vehicle accident 16 or 17 years ago.  My parents and Steve were some of the first to lend him assistance after he was discharged from the hospital.  He was depressed, unable to walk, had no artificial legs and stuck in his bed.  Steve, my dad, and Red rigged up a support bar for him so he could get out of bed.  They bought him a wheel chair and taught him how to transfer from the bed to the chair.  They also got him a 3 wheeled handi-capped tricycle.  They delivered the bicycle on Christmas day.  What a wonderful Christmas present.  Through the years we have given Abdulai assistance when we could.  Today he wanted to welcome us back to Ghana and to give us some yams as a New Year’s gift.  Today he asked us if we could help him get a new (used) wheel chair.  It was a legitimate request.  The seat on the wheelchair he is using is completely worn out and the wheels are almost gone.  We told him we would look for one next time we are in Tamale.  Nazo went with us to visit Abdulai so we shared the yams with him.

Today was Yendi’s big market day.  We tried to wait until it cooled down before we went to the market.  At 3:30 it was still 112 degrees.  Finally we just decided that if we were going to go to the market we would just have to go because it was not going to cool down much before it got dark.  Presently it is 8:00pm and the temperature is still 93 degrees.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
