Steve just got off the phone with Bill Irby, the preacher at West Hobbs Street in Athens.  Bill has been here a couple times.  He asked Steve what we were having for supper.  He was pleasantly surprised when Steve told him “Sweet n Sour Chicken” over a bed of rice.  I have said it before and I will say it again, “I might not be much to look at but I know how to cook!”  Ha!

We have contracted with Nazo, the day man, to paint the new building at Kulkpeni.  The workers have a 4 day holiday coming up and he wants to use that time to make a little extra money.  We went to the hardware store this afternoon and bought the paint, brushes, turpentine and tape that he will need for the project.  We will take the ladder, paint and Nazo out there first thing in the morning so he can get started.

I bought a bunch of 100 pound flour sacks for an apron project that I am working on.  The problem is that the flour sacks were stained.  Of course the man selling them to me assured me that they would come clean when I washed them.  Well, they did not come clean.  I decided to put straight bleach on the spots to see if that would clean them and no it did not!  I am annoyed to say the least.  I will give them to Timothy, the evangelist / tailor.  Timothy will tie dye them and no one will know they are stained.  I need more flour sacks so this afternoon I decided to go to the source.  We went to the bread making shop.  A couple guys run the shop.  They have an industrial bread mixer and kneading machine.  They also have hundreds of bags of flour.  The ladies bring their butter, sugar, yeast, and salt to the shop and buy the flour from the men.  The men then mix the dough for the ladies and they take the dough and cook it in their own ovens.  We asked the men if they had empty flour sacks; they did not but they directed to the house of one of the ladies that bakes bread.  She had a couple shelves filled with sacks.  I was happy but the ladies were a little annoyed that I refused so many sacks.  They assured me that the stains would come out if I washed them.  Not!

When we came back to the mission house a couple young men were waiting for us.  One of the men was the husband of the mother with the hair lipped baby.  He came to thank us for helping them with the baby and to let us know that they would be leaving a day earlier than expected to go to get the surgery for the baby.  We told him to come and get the transport money, food money and food for the baby a day earlier.  He was pleased that we are going to help them.  We pass his thanks on to you.

Have a lovely day!  It was hot here again today.  The high temperature was 112 degrees with a heat index of 133 degrees.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
