I got busy and forgot to send out the Yendi Notes to let you know that we got back home safely. Oops! We were supposed to arrive on Wednesday evening but things did not go as scheduled and we did not get home until Thursday.
We arrived at JFK airport in New York on schedule. We boarded the plane for Atlanta on time but we sat and sat on the tarmac. Finally, the pilot announced that there was a problem, and that air traffic control had shut down all the routes leaving JFK. We presumed it was weather related. The weather in JFK was clear and there were no storms in Atlanta but there were some storms in-between the cities. We sat on the plane for about 1 ½ hours. We knew we were not going to make our connection in Atlanta and that was the last flight for the day. Sure enough when we got to Atlanta the plane we were supposed to be on had already left. The airlines rescheduled us for one of the morning flights on Thursday.
The Delta agent was very nice, she explained that no hotel accommodations are given if the problem is either weather or air traffic control problems. We ended up spending the night in the airport. The Delta agent gave us several blankets and we found a series of seats that formed sort of a couch and set up residence in that area. We were exhausted from our 24 hours of traveling so we were able to get some sleep. We would have gotten more sleep if the floor cleaner and his machine had not kept going up and down the corridor. There was also a maintenance crew in the corridor replacing ceiling tiles and then there were all the lights! Needless to say, we were up well before it was time for our flight to Huntsville.
When we got to Huntsville we were happy to see our family that came to pick us up. It took a long time for us to get out of the airport because one of our pieces of luggage did not make it on the plane from Atlanta. We had to make a missing bag report and they wanted us to stay around so they could see if they could figure out where the bag was. They finally located it in Atlanta and had them send it to Huntsville on the next flight. They actually delivered the bag to our house in Athens so we did not have to make another trip to the airport to retrieve the bag. The bag arrived at our house around 4:00 p.m.
We are proud to be in America! Thank you for the prayers!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. Please pray for our friend Judy; she has been in the hospital and had surgery. She is home now but we know she would appreciate the prayers!
