We are back in Ghana. We arrived in Accra, the capital city this morning around 9:00 a.m. Ghana time which is about 4:00 a.m. Alabama time. We left home yesterday morning at 4:45 a.m. We are pretty travel worn!
Our trip thus far has been uneventful which is exactly what we prayed for. We flew from Huntsville, AL to Atlanta, Gorgia where we had a layover of almost 2 hours; then we flew to JFK airport in New York and had a 3-hour layover. We were able to get the straight across flight from New York to Ghana which was a 9-hour flight. The New York to Accra flight was almost 2 hours late leaving. They had to wait for the plane to arrive from Rome before they could use it to fly to Accra. No one told us the plane was late getting in from Rome. After we boarded the plane, we sat on the tarmac for about 45 minutes. The pilot said he was going to make up as much time as he could but that we would still be late getting to Accra. At least Accra was our last destination for the day!
We are spending a couple nights in Accra before heading up to Yendi. We have some business that we have to do in Accra and Steve wants to check on the status of the new van we are trying to buy. You know how everything is in Ghana, “Hurry-up and wait!”
We hired a taxi for a few hours to drive us to the FOREX (Foreign Exchange Bureau) to change dollars into Cedis and then to the domestic airline office to buy tickets to fly up to Tamale on Friday morning.
I asked the taxi driver if he knew of a place in Accra that sold used sewing machines. We have been talking about trying to help Timothy Niligrini get a sewing surger for his tailoring business. We found 2 that might have worked but getting the correct needles is going to be the problem. The salesman said that they are difficult to find in Accra so we knew that they would be almost impossible to get in Yendi! He said from time to time he gets one in that uses more common needles so we are just going to keep checking around and see if we can find a different type. It would be silly to buy him a machine that he could not get needles for.
Our last stop of the day was the pizza /fried chicken shop that is near the hotel. We had Immanuel, the taxi driver, drop us there so we could get something to eat. We ordered our food and walked back to the hotel. We slept the rest of the afternoon.
Thank you for all the prayers for safe travels! Please keep them coming for a couple more days!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
