We just got off the telephone with Zorash. She called to let us know that Adamu, the child that has been struggling with severe malnutrition, was admitted to the hospital a couple days with fever and diarrhea. They have been giving her antibiotic IV drips. They have not told her mother what they think is wrong with her or what they are treating her for. Yesterday she was some better but last night her fever came back so they did blood work and sent it to the lab. It would not surprise us if she did not have to have blood. If she has malaria the parasites eat up the red blood cells and cause anemia. Thanks to the mobile money we were able to send Zorash the money to cover her treatment. Adamu was doing a lot better but she has no fat reserves and a very bad immune system so it is difficult for her to fight off the least little infection. Adamu has been a difficult case; we have been struggling with her for almost 2 years. About the time we think she is over the hump she has a setback. Two steps forward and one step backward but she is making small improvements along the way.

This morning Enoch called. Enoch is one of the preachers that my brother Paul works with up in the Wa area. Enoch called to tell us that we were supposed to send them the money for the seminar that Paul had promised them. The problem was we were not aware that we were supposed to be sending them money. He said that Paul had sent us an email. When we checked the email, sure enough the message had been sent and the amount. The email came in last night at 12:30 while we were sleeping so we were not aware that it had come in. The problem came when we tried to find someone to send the amount of money that they needed. Most of the street vendors don’t have enough money on hand to send large amounts. We drove around in the taxi for about 45 minutes before we found someone that could send it for us. Had we been in Yendi it would not have been a problem because we know the vendors that can send money. Actually, the taxi driver finally called his friend that handles mobile money and we met up with him and made the transaction. We even went to one of the MTN offices that is in a mortar and block building but they could not send the money; they told us to go out on the street and find one of the vendors under the yellow umbrellas and get them to send it in. All this running around cut into my shopping! Ha! We left the art center to go and send the money. When we came back, I picked up shopping at the same vendor I was at when we got the phone call. The lady at the shop was happy that I came back said, “You had to leave to send money to your “brother Paul”. Well, anyone that knows me knows I have a big voice that carries! Why not share our business with the world! I could not help but laugh about that one! We were successful in sending the money.

We went to a new place to shop this morning and the shopping was not very good. I only bought a carved lion and a few beads. Next time I will go to the big market. We did not have any luck finding a Nissan van; they still promise that they are coming to Ghana but no one knows when.

Take care and enjoy your day!

Steve and Kandie

P.S. Skeeter will probably have lots to say tomorrow when we get back to Yendi!
