Today was a holiday. Everyone will be back at work tomorrow so things should return to a somewhat normal state. When we went to town this afternoon we got stuck in the middle of a parade that was going to the chief’s palace. The sub-chiefs were walking under huge umbrellas that were about 6 feet across. The people that carry the umbrellas make the umbrellas dance by twirling them and moving them up and down. It is really quite a sight to behold and then of course there were the horses. The more important chiefs ride on horses. The horses are dressed as well as the chiefs. They use herbs to paint the horses’ feet red. The warriors carry guns and randomly shoot them. They are so loud. One of the warriors shot a gun off right beside the truck. I thought I was going to have a heart attack! The road was full of people so we just had to pull over to the side and wait until they passed.

This morning Steve and Jack helped me rearrange the kitchen. We moved the washing machine, took out a table, replaced the shelving unit that Mr. Iddrisu painted last week and moved in a 5 foot cabinet. I have been threatening to rearrange the kitchen for a while but Steve has always seemed to have something else to do but since today was holiday….. why not do something productive? When we moved the furniture we found lots of dirt but nothing important. You know how these projects are one thing calls for another. I then decided that I needed someone to build me a wooden 2ft x 4ft lattice type pallet for the water, water filter and bottles to sit on. We went to the lumber yard and had the men rip the boards to the size we needed and to plane them. Jack did not know there was another lumber yard in Yendi. He has been buying the boards for his chairs from the little lumber yard near the mission house. I think he might change lumber yards. The price of the boards is the same but the bigger yard has better machinery. Jack started working up the plans for a table for Simeon. Simeon is Timothy Niligrini’s brother that has been digging up the Neem trees. I found out that I have been misspelling Nim trees; it is supposed to be spelled Neem. Oops!

We took the money to Timothy this afternoon that he will need to start the process of registering the church at Kulkpeni. Divine, the evangelist from Kpamang is going to meet him in Tamale tomorrow and go with him to the Registrar General’s office.

I almost forgot to tell you that Timothy called last night about 30 minutes before it was time for us to go to Kulkpeni for Bible study and told Steve that they had put Jack on the program to teach the Bible class. Talk about short notice! Jack didn’t even bat an eye. He taught a very good lesson about Jonah. Something was wrong with the lights at Kulkpeni last night. Half the lights in the village were off. The building was pitch black; Jack had to preach by the light from his cell phone.

Have a great day!

In His Service,

Jack, Steve and Kandie
