When we took Nazo, the day man / painter, out to Kulkpeni this morning we also took the battery powered chain saw, the window and door locks, screws and drill. While we were there we cut all the branches off a mango tree that was touching the roof of one of the buildings. The neighbor planted the tree too close to the building a few years ago. A few weeks ago we negotiated a price for the tree so we could completely cut it down. Tichak, the watchman who is a church member at Kulkpeni wants to try to uproot the tree and replant it. The tree trunk is bigger than both my hands put together.
We also got hasps, door and window locks on the new rooms in the new building so the doors can be closed to keep the goat, sheep and children out of the buildings. I don’t know what the carpenter that made the doors and windows was using to measure them but we had to rework all but 1 of the doors and a couple of the windows. Once again the job took at least twice as long as we thought it would. We also cut down a small Neem tree that was too close to the bath house. After Steve cut the tree it got tangled in another tree and would not fall to the ground. Obed, a young man that is one of the church members came to our rescue. We thought we were going to have to go back to town and get a rope and use the truck to pull the tree free. Obed climbed the tree and helped us get it down. There is one more large tree that needs to be cut down that is leaning on the bath house. It will take a bigger saw and a generator to get it down.
Steve spent part of the afternoon working on the Continuing Education class for the Child Center workers. He will teach a couple classes in the upcoming weeks. The class he was working on today was about the do’s and don’ts of breastfeeding. He is taking his material from his own CCU that he had to do earlier this year to renew his nurse’s license in Ghana.
One more day and Nazo will finish painting the buildings at Kulkpeni. Not only is he painting the new building but he is painting the new doors and trim on the bath house and the new doors on the sleeping quarters. Timothy, the evangelist, said that the villagers did not know that the new building was for the church until they saw the colors that the painter was using. All the buildings match. They are cream with a blue green trim.
We had a lively discussion at Bible study tonight about marriage, divorce, and polygamy. The class had lots of good questions. This topic always generates more and more questions.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
