When we checked into the hotel yesterday afternoon the rooms were very hot! The refrigerator in our room was not working so the manager had a repairman to come and work on it. The air conditioning in Jim and Pam’s room went off and would not come back on so when we went out to find something for supper, they worked on that too. It took us a couple hours to hire taxis and to eat; we were fully expecting to return to cool rooms but that was not the case. While we were gone the electricity must have gone off because the A/C units in both rooms were off. The electrical voltage was so low that the fans in the units came on but our compressor never kicked on. It was cooler outside in the hallway than it was in our room. We finally had to change rooms. The new room was a smaller room and the unit should have cooled it better but it was still too warm in the room. I finally put water on my gown and slept in wet clothes. It is amazing how cool you are when you have on wet clothes especially if there is wind blowing. I tried to get Steve to sleep in wet clothes but he refused; he hates to be wet!  Around 11:00 the electricity went off and they started the generator. The air conditioners and the refrigerators started working well after that.

It rained in the early hours of the morning; the rain continued until about 7:00. It was still drizzling when we walked down to the little café for our breakfast. The shop serves sandwiches and sweet bread, muffins and cakes. We had sandwiches for breakfast. Pam also tried one of the chocolate muffins. We needed a hearty breakfast because we had lots of shopping to do today!

We hired a taxi driver to stay with us while we were shopping. It was nice to have a place to put the things that we bought and not have to worry about hunting for a taxi when we were ready to go back to the hotel. It rained on us some while we were shopping but a lot of the art center is under cover. We found everything that was on Pam’s wish list plus a few extras. I even bought a few things; imagine that! Shopping is my one weakness!

After we had our fill of shopping we headed back to the hotel. Steve had the taxi driver drop Jim, Pam and me at the Pizza Inn fast food restaurant so we could order our lunch while the taxi driver took him to the Forex to exchange money and to the hotel to drop off all the goodies that we bought. He then joined us at the restaurant for lunch; we ate about 2:30 p.m.

Steve and I rested this afternoon while Jim and Pam packed their suitcases. We brought the luggage scale with us so we were able to weigh them before we went to the airport.

Around 5:30 p.m. the van and driver arrived to take us to the hotel. Jim and Pam got checked in and passed through customs and TSA without any problem. They still had to wait several hours before they got on the plane. They were supposed to fly at 10:00 p.m. so by the time you get this email they should be in the air. Steve just checked their flight on the “Flight Aware” App and their plane has been delayed a little bit.

We will fly back to Tamale tomorrow around noon.

Please pray that we all have safe uneventful flights!

The Monkeyshines

Nothing to report except misery and loneliness! First, the parents left me to go on a trip to a monkey sanctuary! Can you believe that they abandoned me to go look at Mona monkeys? Mona monkeys are not nearly as good looking as me; I am an African Green Monkey! They let the monkeys crawl all over them and they fed them tons of bananas! They left me in Yendi with nothing to eat but frozen fruit for 3 days!

I get in trouble for biting Mom; well, guess what? One of those awful Mona monkeys bit mom’s little finger and made her bleed! Serves her right for being a traitor! Well, because he bit her, she had to go to the emergency room and get anti-rabies shots; she has to get 5 shots! When I bite, I get put in the time out box! Well, that Mona monkey bit her and he did not get put into time-out! I call a foul on that! That is not fair! I never made Mom go to the hospital and get shots and antibiotics! As soon as they got back from visiting the Mona monkeys and Mole game reserve, they were only home 1 afternoon before they left to go to Accra. So here I sit alone again!

Now if Mom bites me, she will not be able to give me rabies!

You can’t trust a Mona monkey!!!

Love, Skeeter, the best African Green monkey in the world!
