The first item of business this morning was to do the laundry! We have to do it on the days that the sun is shining which is about every other day since we are in the middle of the rainy season.
After we got the clothes hung on the line Jack and I decided to go to town and get the boards planed that he needed for the table he is making for Simeon. Simeon is Timothy Niligrini’s brother and the guy who is in the process of digging up the Neem trees. We sorted through some of the lumber in the container at the mission house before we went to town. Last time we were at the lumber yard they did not have any red wood and Jack wanted to make a multicolored design on the table top. We found a couple pieces which were going to have to be milled down to the size Jack needed. We had a bit of a difficult time getting the men that ran the planer to understand that indeed we wanted to mill the 2×6’s down to 1 x 6’s. I think they thought that was just a terrible waste of wood. Jack was happy with the lumber when we left. As we were trying to pull out on the main road the truck died several times and would not take the gas the way it should. Jack was driving. After we lurched for about 3 or 4 blocks the truck made some terrible noises and I told Jack to pull over because something was seriously wrong with the truck. Jack pulled off on a side road and I tried to call Steve but he did not have his phone with him. I looked through my phone numbers and found Gomda, the mechanic’s number. He answered the second time I called him. He laughed when I told him I needed help because my truck died! He was at the truck in about 10 minutes. He is such a nice guy! He listened to the truck; pulled the fuel cable and said that it was only hitting on 3 cylinders. He asked if we wanted him to go and get a taxi to take us to the mission house but we declined his offer. We are capable of flagging down our own taxi. He took the truck to his shop and he will work on it tomorrow. He does not work on Fridays.
Jack spent the rest of the day working on the table. It was so cute when he got it finished. He pieced various colored wood together for the top and it turned out very nice. I say that it is cute because the tables they use to eat on are very short tables. The legs of this table were only 1 foot high. After Jack finished the table he strapped it to the back of the motorcycle and took it to Timothy’s house. Simeon lives with Timothy. Simeon was not there but Timothy and a bunch of children were. I think
Simeon had gone to work in his farm.
Red stopped by for a visit and to take the measurements for a small metal house to cover the new cistern pump Steve has been trying to get plumbed.
Divine also stopped by with one of the church members from Kpamang. We agreed to buy a bicycle for this man because he is actively teaching the people in his community to read the Konkomba language. He needed a means of getting from the village to town and back. Steve took them to town so the guy could pick out his own bicycle.
Take care and have a great day. It is almost time for Friday evening Bible study.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
