We are proud to announce the roof is on the new building at Kulkpeni. The roof is just a large “A” shape with no breaks. It looks pretty good. I say pretty good because the carpenter miscued on his measurements and the top peak of the roof is a bit longer than the lower edge of the roof which made the corrugated tin not line up on the outside edges. All in all it is not too bad considering the building was not square in the first place. We are hopeful that next week we can get another mason to come and plaster inside and outside of the building.
We only had to make one trip out to Kulkpeni today and that was shortly before noon to take the carpenters their food and pay them for their work. They were supposed to hang the doors and windows this afternoon but we think they will probably wait until tomorrow because today is Yendi’s big market day and everyone loves to go to the market especially if you have some money in your pocket!
We had Nazo, the day man, start cleaning out the gutters on the main house and the Child Center today. They are full of leaves and we are nearing the end of the dry season. We could get one of those first rains anytime and we want to make sure that the gutters are clean so we can catch the rain water.
Abdullah, the man that took the motorcycle and motor king papers to Tamale to get the VELD stickers renewed has had a terrible time getting them renewed this year. He has already made 3 trips to Tamale and he is going to have to go back again on Monday. The first time he went the machine that prints the stickers died while they were working on ours. The second time he went the machine was not working. Yesterday when he went the machine was working but they only renewed the stickers for 6 months instead of 1 year. Please! If the vehicles are used for commercial use they are renewed every 6 months but if they are for private use they are renewed for 1 year. We don’t want to have to go through this any sooner than we have to; we want a full year! Abdullah said that he did not have time yesterday to wait for them to renew and re-issue the stickers so he is going to go back on Monday. It is a good thing that we don’t need to drive them.
Steve spent part of the day working on his Continuing Education Credits. He has to get his Ghanaian nurse’s licensed renewed by the end of the month and he needed a few more credits to meet their new criteria. Thank goodness for the internet.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
