This morning we had to move the pile of sand that was left over from last year’s new garage project.  We have been intending to move the pile for months but just never got around to it.  You notice I say “WE” but really it was Steve and Nazo that moved the pile.  We needed it moved so the guys could paint the slab that the shipping containers are sitting on.

A bunch of mothers came to the Child Center this morning.  By the time we were finished seeing all the babies we were surprised that 64 babies came to see us today.  Two of the mothers with hair lipped babies came today.  Tomorrow is a very exciting day for them because they will go to Tamale to catch a bus to Ho where a team of doctors are waiting to do the repair surgery on the babies.  I know that the 6 months they have had to wait for the babies to be old enough to get the surgery has seemed like an eternity to them.  Thanks to your generous gifts we were able to give them the transport money to and from Ho and also food money while they are in Ho.  They will have to stay in Ho for about 10 days.  The father of one of the babies is going to accompany his wife to Ho and the grandmother of the other baby will go with them.  We did not see the 3rd mother today.  We were afraid she was not motivated enough to prepare to go down south and get the surgery.  It is so difficult to figure out what is going on in some of the people’s minds or what obstacles they are facing at home.  Sometimes the older people in a village are against surgery and some believe that “evil” forces are at work in children with special needs.

We spent a good portion of the afternoon washing field corn and soy beans.  We did not realize that we were almost out of weaning mix.  If we do not roast some more we will run out before the end of the week.  We picked and washed 50 pounds of corn and 15 pounds of soybeans.  It is on the veranda drying.  The plan is for the ladies that work in the Child Center to roast it tomorrow; that is if everyone is able to come to work.

We saw Red, the part time driver / gravel hauler / welder / handy-man, this afternoon.  He is making some forever metal doors for a couple of the buildings.  He said that they were almost finished with the doors but the metal shop had run out of the plate metal so he had to wait for the new shipment to come before he could finish.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.  Keep praying for us.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
