We left this morning before 7:00 and did not get back to the mission house until shortly after 5:00 this evening.  We went to Tamale; at least we did not have to drive back to Yendi in the dark!  Our main reason for going today was to get a driver’s license for Gomda, the mechanic.  Our own drivers’ licenses expire the first week of May.  We were pleasantly surprised when they told us that we could go ahead and renew them early.  The whole process of getting a license renewed or getting a new license is such a long drawn out process.  First you go to the main office and stand in line to state our business, we were directed to go to door number 2 (seriously you have to walk around looking for door number 2) does this sound like a joke or what?  When we found door number 2 the inspector was not around so we had to go out to the inspection garage and wait for the inspector to look at our old drivers’ licenses and approve a new one.  We then went back inside to get the forms that we needed for the eye exam.  What in the world, every time we have to pay for an eye exam?  I am blind as a bat without my glasses; just go ahead and commit me if I decide I can drive without glasses!  We have 5 choices of where we can go to have our eye exam and none of them are in the motor vehicle office.  We opted for the one that was closest.  The eye examiner told me to take off my glasses and read the chart.  I laughed and said I can’t see that chart without my glasses.  Of course he did not believe me and told me to do it anyway.  I removed my glasses and I could not even make out the largest letter.  He then told me to cover my left eye and see if I could see.  If I couldn’t see with both eyes open how could I see with only one eye open.  He then tried to hold up his fingers to see if I could tell how many he was holding up.  I asked him to come closer and closer until I could see two blurry fingers.  The conclusion was that I needed to wear my glasses when I was driving!  Back at the driver’s license office we got in line again to get a bill; went to another window; stood in line to pay; got the receipt; stood in line for approval; and then sat for 45 minutes while they printed the temporary licenses.  The real licenses should be ready in 3 months.  It was almost noon by the time we got out of the office.  Gomda did not fare as well as we did; he did not get his temporary license today; he is going back next Friday to hopefully pick up his temporary license.

We left the drivers’ license office and headed back to town.  Gomda decided that he would take public transport back to Yendi instead of running errands with us so we took him to the bus stop.  We were happy that we found the distemper vaccine for the monkey.  We found the vets office too; it is right beside the Social Welfare office.  We go to the Social Welfare office several times a year to renew the Child Center license and we have never noticed the vet’s office.  There is no sign board.  The vet was very nice and had some advice for us about monkeys.

We did a little shopping and then headed back to Yendi.  Gomda should have just hung out with us because he only got to Yendi an hour or so before we did.

Have a great day!

Skeeter’s Monkey Business

I only thought that Sunday was a long day when I was left all alone while the parents went to church but today was even worse!  They left me this morning before 7:00 and they did not come back until almost dark tonight.  I was so hungry today!  I missed 3 of my bottle feeding!  My stomach was trying to eat my backbone!  Now they did leave me a couple of dishes of food but really there was nothing in the dishes that could temp me to eat.  I could have eaten, the food was good but I was too upset to eat!  Mom gave me 2 small bowls of food, one of the bowls had the fruit and the other one had cornflakes, bread, nuts and dry food.

When I heard the truck in the drive I was so excited!  I knew that my life had been saved!  As soon as my mom came in the house she heated me a bottle of corn cereal and formula, my favorite!  I normally only drink 1 ounce at a time but today I drank an ounce very quickly; I took a break and then I drank another ounce.  My stomach was so pooched out that my diaper was tight!  My belly button was almost an outy instead of an inny.  Did I tell you that the skin on my stomach, inner thighs and inner arms are blue and that my belly button is dark blue; I am quite a handsome fella!

Since Mom and Dad left me so long today I am planning on keeping them awake a long time tonight!  I have lots of energy to burn!  And they are going to pay for leaving me behind today!

Hope you have as good of a time tonight as I plan to!

Love Skeeter
