The mason got the roof on the well house fixed today. Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo helped him again. They have been enjoying getting the extra money for being the motor king driver and mason’s helpers. It is sort of like getting to work overtime. We would rather pay them than hire strangers to do the work. After they finished the roof they made several trips to Dawda, the mason’s house. Dawda cleaned up some of the best blocks that the flooding knocked down. He asked if he could have them to use at his own house. We had no need for them and were more than happy to get them hauled away. There are still a lot of broken blocks in the field; we will put them around the wall to try and protect it from water in the coming years.
Divine stopped by this afternoon to let us know he got custom paper for the motorcycle he bought a few weeks ago. He used the Child Center’s address which was a mistake because the motorcycle does not belong to the Child Center. He is going to go back tomorrow and get them to remove the Child Center’s name and put his name and address on the documents. He will then have to go to Tamale to get the motorcycle registered in his name and get the license plates. It is such a long drawn out costly process to register a used motorcycle. Divine is very persistent and he will probably get it all taken care of.
This afternoon we went to the market because today is Yendi’s big market day. While we were out we stopped and bought plastic containers to put diaper rash ointment in. We will go tomorrow morning and pick up the rest of the containers. She did not have the larger containers counted. It is strange that they do not know how many containers come in a bundle.
While we were out the truck decided that it did not want to start. Some men took pity on us and tried to push us to get it started but it would not start. Steve called Gomda, the mechanic, and he came to our rescue. He fiddled with something or the other and then had the men push the truck again. Gomda got it started. He said that he thinks the problem is the “kicker”. Steve told me that the “kicker” is actually the starter. He will work on it on Saturday. While we were waiting we bought some boiled peanuts to munch on. We had a bottle of water with us so we did not suffer while we were waiting for Gomda to come.
The high temperature today was 104 degrees with a heat index of 115 degrees.
Take care and have a great day.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
