As soon as we got up this morning we walked down to the condemned well house with our hammers and crow bars.  We wanted to take the door and windows and their frames down before Dowda the mason came to install the new metal doors and windows.  By the time we finished and got back to the mission house Dowda was waiting under the mango tree for us.

Nazo came to the mission house to tell us that he wanted to take today and tomorrow off to finish harvesting his peanuts.  We told him that we had already told Dowda that he would be helping him today.  If Nazo helps Dowda we do not have to pay an extra man to help mix cement.  I just love to save money.  Nazo said that he would help Dowda today and take off tomorrow and tomorrow next to harvest.  We told him that Thursday was a holiday so that would be one day he did not have to make up.

Shiabu, the electrician also came today to re-wire the room we are going to turn into a small warehouse.  Years ago the building had electricity but something happened and the wiring got disconnected.  Shiabu had to start from scratch.  It took him the lion’s portion of the day to get it wired with lights, switches and outlets.  He wanted to put in a ceiling fan.  Really! In a storage room, don’t think we will need a fan to go in and get a gallon of paint.  We have decided that if we buy supplies for the Center and the property once a month instead of every few days it will lighten our bookkeeping load and make it easier to keep up with the accounts.  Anyway that is how we think it will work.  We will try it for a little while and see.  Shiabu could not figure out why we put plywood over the windows.  Plywood will keep prying eyes off the things that are stored in the room and it will help keep the dust out.

It is customary to buy at least one meal for the workers you hire to do special projects.  When we closed the Child Center we went to town and got rice and Banku (fermented corn dough ball with okra slime soup) for the workers.  Banku is one of my favorite Ghanaian dishes so naturally I had Banku.  Steve had rice.  The okra slime soup was cooked with little mystery pieces of goat today.  I got a piece of stomach, a piece of skin and several pieces of fat.  Lucky me!

We needed tomatoes and onions so we went to the market late this afternoon.  Mr. Iddrisu had to walk to work because he still has not found his motorcycle.  He keeps hoping it will turn up but we are afraid it has been taken far away from Yendi by now.  We gave him a ride home on our way to the market.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
