We were short handed all the way around today.  Zorash had to do something or the other with her volunteer group so she did not come to work.  Nazo took the day off so he could harvest peanuts.  Around noon we noticed that he was sitting on the veranda with Mr. Iddrisu.  He said that he had to stop harvesting because his waist was hurting him.  He said he could hardly bend over.  Part of the problem is he did not weed the peanuts so the grass that is in the peanuts is knee high.  He has to hack the weeds before he can pull the peanuts.  The harvest is going to be low because there is no way he can pull the peanuts without the seeds being knocked off by the grass roots.

We had to cut our walk short this morning because Mr. Iddrisu had a lead on a used motorcycle.  We told him that we would loan him part of the money he needed so he could replace the motorcycle that was stolen last week.  The new motorcycles are too expensive.  One of the motorcycle mechanics in town found one that he thought he could afford.  Mr. Iddrisu wanted Steve to check the motorcycle and the papers to see if the motorcycle could be licensed.  There is no real way of telling if the papers are good or not without taking them to Tamale to the motor vehicle office.  The motorcycle is a little over a year old.  The owner needs to sell it so he can have the money to pay his school fees.  Iddrisu bought the motorcycle this afternoon.  They will go on Monday to get the title transferred into Mr. Iddrisu’s name.

Red finished making my “forever chicken coop”.  Now doesn’t that sound like something we can’t live without?  We had a wooden chicken coop but it fell apart after the termites riddled it.  I decided that we needed to have one made entirely of metal so we contracted with Red to make one for us.  I know you are wondering if we have chickens.  No, we do not raise chickens but from time to time we get chickens or guinea fowl as gifts and we have nowhere to keep them.  I had Red add rings to hold food and water containers and perches.  No good chicken coop would be complete without perches.  No self respecting chicken wants to sit on the floor all night.  Red even put a lock on the door.  Wouldn’t it be terrible if the chickens were stolen out of their cage?  I plan to paint it green with a red roof.  It will not only be functional but it will be cute!

We had to take the old van back to the electrician because after he worked on the wiring we have no wipers and no brake lights.  Imagine that!  You cannot believe the way they have wired the van.  The horn quit functioning so now to blow the horn you pull up on the blinker.  The high low beam switch died so now we have a button on the floor; like most of the old cars used to have.  The vehicle is a diesel and has a heater to warm something (glow plugs) to make the vehicle start.  It does not function through the key switch anymore rather they installed a button on the dash board for that.  If we ever sell the old van we will have to make a new owner’s manual for it.  Gomda called just before dark to let us know they had finished the work.  But when we got there they had disconnected the head lights.  Please!  Give me a break!  We will pick up the van tomorrow.  By this time it was almost time to leave for Bible study so I made some sandwiches and we ate supper on the way to Bible class.

Take care and have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
