The masons have finished laying the blocks to repair the wall! Can you hear us shouting? We are so happy to have that part of the project behind us. It was a happy day when we paid Dawda off and packed away the tools! We hired 3 of the men to haul blocks tomorrow. We still have 350 blocks that need to be moved from Red’s house to the mission house. They should be able to get them all moved in one day. The wall repair took more blocks than we anticipated! The masons laid a total of 1,986 blocks! Plus, all the foundation and pillar work! They worked hard to get the work done in 8 days!
Red stopped by this morning; he is going to put the razor wire back up for us but we have a job we need him to do before he starts hanging the wire. We commissioned him to make 2 metal doors for the new bath houses that we are going to build at Kulkpeni for the seminar. He is also going to repair 2 bathhouse doors that the kids have pulled down. I guess they use the doors to swing on. They pulled them out of the cement! This morning we went to Kulkpeni to get the doors so Red could make the repairs and he would have a pattern so he would know what size to make them. Those village children at Kulkpeni are awful! No one watches them and many do not go to school so they are left to their own devices all day long! Many times, their parents are not even in the village, especially on the days that they go to the farm. Older children are watching younger children and it is not a plan that is working very well! Red said he was going to start the doors today; he is hopeful that he will get them finished today and spray paint them tomorrow. He is going to repaint the old doors that he is repairing so that they will all be the same color.
We made several trips to town today; the last time was to pick up the old van. The clutch went out in the van and Steve had to drive it to the mechanic shop in 2nd gear. Gomda had to do a lot of work on it! Not only did we have him work on the clutch but we also had him change the oil, grease it and replace the brake pads because the emergency brake was not holding.
We now have to work on the receipts for the wall repair so we can pay WHT (withholding tax) on the supplies we bought and the labor we paid out.
Take care and please keep us and the work in your prayers.

Dad caught a grasshopper for me this morning and I flatly refused it! It was not a normal grasshopper; it was one of those that has that sharp pointy face with the eyes set too far back on his head! Those are too creepy for me to eat! It has a face only a mother could love! Besides that, a sharp head will stick you! You know I am a connoisseur of grasshoppers! And I can be a grasshopper SNOB if it does not look just right! Dad even let it go inside my condo in hopes that if I saw it moving, I might jump on it! Not happening! There are some of God’s creatures that just need to be FREE and that type of grasshopper is one of them.
While the parents were out, they bought a pineapple; it was one of the white ones! What a treat! It has been over a week since I have had fresh pineapple. Mom says that it is because the dry season is here and they are not as plentiful. I will take them every time I can get them! Yum!
Don’t eat ugly grasshoppers!
Love, Skeeter
