Three of the mason’s helpers were supposed to come today and finish hauling the cement blocks that are at Red’s house but they failed us! They never showed up. Mr. Iddrisu came to work early this morning because the men were supposed to start work at 7:00. Mr. Iddrisu called us at 9:30and told us that they never came. We told him just to go back to the mission house and start painting the wall. He called Dauda, the mason that arranged for the workers and he said he had no idea where they were. So, who knows what happened.

After our walk we went out to Kulkpeni to meet up with John, the mason that worked on the buildings and walls around the church building. We are getting everything ready for him to start the work on the new bath houses. We hired a 4-foot square water container and he is going to have it filled. We also paid ahead for 10 bags of cement and arranged for sand to be brought to the church property. He plans on starting the work tomorrow. Hopefully, it will not take him too long to get the bath house built.

This morning the father of the 4-year-old boy who drank the caustic soda came back to the Child Center. The father had raised almost all of the money needed for the surgery and the transport. The little boys’ uncle is going to cover the rest of the money needed for the surgery. The little boy has lost a tremendous amount of weight since he was here 2 weeks ago. He looks like one of our severely malnourished children! He has a feeding tube but obviously they are not feeding him enough. When we told his father that he has to feed him more, he said that he was doing exactly what the doctors told him to do and he was not going to do anything else! If they are not careful, they are going to lose the child! The child is going to go to Kumasi tomorrow for the surgery. Neither the father nor the mother of the child is going to go with him. They are going to send the child with his uncle; the uncle will stay with him during the surgery and the recovery period after the surgery! Please! I will never understand some of the things these people do! Who would send their child 7 hours away to a strange place where he does not speak the language to have surgery and not go with them? It just boggles the mind! Zorash said that the uncle has to go because the father and the mother do not speak English. I don’t care! Nothing in the rule book says that the uncle and the mother could not go or the uncle and the father!

This morning after getting everything situated at the jobsite in Kulkpeni we went with Timothy Niligrini out to Jagrido to look at some pigs. We are going to have to buy some for the seminar. We saw 3 big pigs but the owner was not around so we could not talk about the price. Just before lunchtime Timothy called and said that Stephen, from Kpamang , had found some pigs that a man in a neighboring village was willing to sell. The owner was there, only one of them was as big as the pigs at Jagrido. We told him that we would have to wait to see how much the other pigs are going to cost before we could make our selection. At least we found some pigs.

Take care and enjoy your day!

The Monkeyshines

I was neglected today! The parents left this morning and did not come back until about 1:30 this afternoon! Mom gave me a bottle before they left this morning and then Dad gave me one when they came back to the mission house to meet up with Timothy but no one even offered to open my condo and let me come out and play!

Finally, when they got back at 1:30 Mom got me out and we went into the bedroom; I was ready to play but the parents were ready for a nap! What! That is no fun at all! I might as well have stayed in my condo! Dad turned out the lights and I entertained myself for a little while playing in the semi-dark room. I finally gave up the ghost and crawled under the blanket with Mom and took a nap!

Did I tell you that Mom fried chicken? Well, she did; she usually gives me little tidbits of the chicken but for whatever reason she decided to give me the chicken leg bone! It was glorious! I had the best time pulling off the little bits of meat that were left behind and the knuckles were particularly nice. Mom said I should crack the bone but I did not really know how to do that; maybe I will try that with my next bone!

Finger licking good!
