This morning while we were taking a walk we ran into our neighbor Mr. Oldman. He was very inquisitive about the dam at Kpamang. We told him that we would take him out to see it. We told him that he needed to see if before it rained so he could see how deep it was. Shortly after 2 this afternoon we took him to see the dam. He was impressed! He agrees with us that a dam is the way to go because drilling a well is very unpredictable and you have to pay the driller if they find water or not.
Another baby came to the Child Center this morning with a hair lip. The baby is supposed to have the repair surgery in April. They have to wait until the baby is at least 6 months old before they will do the surgery. We told the parents that we would be able to help with part of the expense involved in getting the surgery done. Babies with hair lips have a difficult time breastfeeding. The mothers are taught to express milk in a small cup to feed the babies. It is hard to hand express enough milk to satisfy a baby. We gave the mother a hand held breast pump and showed her how to use it. She was thrilled! She fed the baby the milk she expressed and he immediately fell asleep. Nothing like being full and happy!
Meri did not come to work today. Her little 3 year old girl, Nazia was sick all last week with a fever. Finally on Thursday we encouraged her to take the child to the hospital. They admitted her. We told Meri that we were afraid she might have Typhoid Fever like her older brother had a couple weeks ago. We are not sure what is wrong with her. Zorash called to check on her this morning and Meri said that they were hoping to be discharged later today.
We got a little bit of rain last night. My brother Paul called from Wa and he said that they got a heavy rain. Nazo, the day man, talked to someone from Tamale and they said they got a heavy rain last night too. We were talking to Mr. Iddrisu about the heavy rain some areas were getting. I told him that we got rain last night too! He said, “Sister Kandie, we got saliva!” Well, that is one way to put it! At least the sprinkling of rain we got cooled things off some. The high temperature today was only 108 degrees instead of 118 degrees.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
