Steve forgot to tell you that on Sunday the chair I was sitting in collapsed on me. Tradition dictates that the visitors sit in front of the church members during worship. Not only do we sit in front of the congregation we sit facing the congregation. Someone had graciously brought plastic chairs from their home for us to sit on. These chairs are made of the thinnest plastic. We were not inside the church building; we were sitting under a tree. My chair was sitting on some tree roots. As we were preparing to stand up for prayer I felt my chair slowly tilting forward. I tried to catch myself on Steve’s shoulder but I plopped down anyway. Everyone gasped; everyone forgot what we were supposed to be doing; imagine a fat white lady thrashing about on the ground! Fortunately I was not hurt. I can add this to my long list of embarrassing moments!
Meri’s little girl was discharged from the hospital yesterday. Meri did come to work today. Steve had Mr. Iddrisu call and check on her. She said that the doctor said Nazia had a serious case of malaria and that the parasites had eaten all her blood. Meri said they sent her home with a lot of medicine. Surely she will be feeling better in a few days. Meri said that she was going to try to come back to work tomorrow.
Zorash also took a day off work today. She said that she had to “lead” someone somewhere; which means she had to take someone to see someone.
Nazo got the rain collecting gutters at the Child Center cleaned out today. While he was on the roof he found a dove’s nest and got a young dove. I figure it will go in tonight’s stew pot. His wife will be happy to see him bringing home some meat.
We hired some men to make mud balls and fill the gap between the walls and the roof on the new building at Kulkpeni. The carpenter told us that he needed a few more nails before he could hang the doors on the building. The carpenter is also making new doors for the bath house. Then all that will be left is to hire some mason to plaster inside and outside of the rooms and make a veranda floor.
While we were laminating the churches certificates we decided that we could protect them even further by putting them in picture frames. We contracted a man in Yendi to go to Tamale and get the frames for us. They are the cheapest flimsiest frames you have ever seen but will protect the certificates.
Take care and keep praying for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. My brother Paul called a little while ago and he said they could see the ocean so they were almost to Sekondi-Takoradi where they will be working for a few days.
