I am so excited!  I bought myself a vacuum cleaner!  You cannot imagine how excited I am!  This dust is getting on my last nerve and I am not even that good of a house keeper.  There is no grass in the yard; only gravel, dirt and dust.  We have not had any rain since mid November.  Every time the wind blows the dust blows inside the house.  We do not have central air conditioning and the temperatures have been over 100 degrees for several months; there is no way we can keep the windows and doors shut or else we would die.

We went to Tamale today so Steve could try again to renew his Ghanaian nurse’s license.  Last week when we went he did not have everything he needed.  One of the things he needed was a new passport picture.  He had to wear a white shirt and it had to be on a white background.  Now that combination might look good on a Ghanaian but it made Steve look rather pale and sickly.  Steve also had to go to a certain bank and make a direct deposit for the renewal into the Nurses and Midwives account.  Today Steve had everything he needed and he got his license renewed.  Now mind you he does not have the license in hand; they had to send it somewhere to get the renewal sticker stuck on the back.  They are going to call him when it comes in.  “What another trip to Tamale?”  It takes 2 hours one way to get to Tamale.

While in Tamale we bought a new air conditioning unit for the guest bedroom in the main house.  While my brother Paul was staying with us it started stinking; making strange noises and finally seized up and quit working all together.   At 11:00 in the night we had to move Paul over to the apartment; clean and wash the floor; put on clean sheets and move his essentials to the apartment.  At least he was able to sleep cool the rest of the time he was with us.  Back to my vacuum story; while we were looking for an air conditioner I spied a vacuum cleaner!  They only had one left and it was the one on display but I did not care!  I have never seen a new vacuum cleaner for sale in Ghana.  I was not leaving the store without it!  Did I mention I am excited about the vacuum cleaner?  Life’s simple pleasure!

The rubber stamps we order for the churches were ready to be picked up so we stopped and got them and also got stamp pads to go with the rubber stamp.  The churches are going to be so happy.

As we were passing through the little village of DC Kura I noticed a seamstress sewing ladies dresses out of the fabric I had hunted all over the market for.  We stopped and I bought all she had.  She said she bought it on market day in a neighboring village.  I gave her some extra money for transportation so she could go next market day and buy some more.  She was happy and so was I.

It is almost time for evening Bible study.  We have not been back from Tamale but an hour.  We decided to wait until after class to eat supper.  Take care and keep praying for us.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
