We made several trips to town today. We were buying groceries and vegetables. The first time we were in town we forgot to get frozen chicken so we had to go back or Steve would have had to have a peanut butter sandwich for supper. He would not have complained because he likes them but mostly, we consider them lunchtime fare. While we were in town we stopped and greeted Gomda, the mechanic.

This morning we walked to the back of the property to survey the damage the storm did to the cement wall. While we were gone, they had a terrible wind storm and it knocked down 11 + sections of the wall on the back west corner of the property. Each section had about 80 blocks. It does not look like any of the blocks are going to be salvageable. What a mess, fortunately most of the wall fell inside the property and not out into the road. Red stopped by this morning to talk to us about making new grates for the water to flow through. We are going to try something different this time. We are going to make a larger foundation so we can set 2 thickness of block until the wall is well out of the ground and out of the flood level. We are going to add additional grates to allow the water to flow through. Red is going to work up an estimate of materials and labor. He will probably start working on the grates next week. We will not actually start rebuilding until the rains slow down. It rained most of the night and part of the afternoon. Typically, we get our heaviest rains in September. We will start cleaning up the rubble next week. We talked to our friend and neighbor, Mr. Oldman, to see if any of our neighbors would like us to fill the ruts in the roads outside their houses. Donkey has a terrible erosion problem at his house and we have several big mud puddles in the lane leading to the mission house but we have lots of rubble to get rid of.

Steve got all the suitcases unpacked and we have found a place for most of the stuff. We start packing as soon as we get home and it is amazing how many things that we pack we forgot we packed. It is almost like Christmas opening the suitcases!

Take care and enjoy your weekend!

Green beans were on the menu! I love fresh green beans but I only want the ones that have the “shellies” in them. You know what shellies are don’t you? Well, the dictionary on this computer did not know what they were; they are the mature beans that have big bean seeds in them. I do not bother to eat the green part; I like to pick out the bean seeds and then I do not eat the bean seed straight up; I peel the seed too! I bet you did not know that you could peel a bean seed either. See how much you are learning today!

I was having a wonderful morning until the men from the bagged water came driving into the compound to bring a couple loads of water. I get so nervous when strange vehicles come in the yard! I was happy when I got taken out on the back veranda so I could not see the man coming in and out of the house carrying bags of water; but I could still hear him and I was not happy about that! By the time he left I was such a nervous wreck that I could not enjoy my lunch!

This afternoon Mom tried to get me out of my condo but I just kept messing around and ignoring her until she finally said I could just sit in my cage and she left me! The first 2 times I cried and begged her to come back she did come back, but that 3rd time she really left me. A little later on she came back and I was more cooperative; she also came with a small handful of raisins; I love raisins!

Don’t mess with Mom! She will leave you!
