The electricity went off around 4am and I kept hoping it would turn back on but after waiting an hour I got fed up and started up the generator. Because we were worshipping at Kulkpeni this morning we didn’t get out of bed until 8am. Our queen-size waterbed makes it easier to stay asleep compared to our traditional mattress back home.
We rolled out to Kulkpeni around 9:20 this morning. As usual, there was only a few men assembled at the church building when we arrived. The song leader gets the job of singing the straggling members in. Before we started class Timothy Niligrini told me he had informed the congregation that we would be attending this morning so I was put on the morning program to teach the bible class. Before starting the class, I extended our greetings to the congregation. I also let them know those who have visited Ghana in the past send their greetings. The brethren really enjoy hearing that others church members are remembering them! I then taught a lesson entitled “Our bodies are the temple of God”. Since it was class, it gave me time to discuss how the use of smoking & alcohol affects the body as well as how fornication, which is sinful, can also bring sexually transmitted Infections to the body. We also briefly discussed abortion. Someone asked if it was ok to sell cigarettes and alcohol if you are not using them. That question caused a lot of discussion.
The first half of the afternoon was spent figuring out the costs of materials and labor needed to start repairing the wall. Phase 1 is making the grates. Red will be purchasing the materials and making the grates for us. The metal has to be ordered from Tamale because it is not available in Yendi. The latter part of afternoon was spent resting and playing with Skeeter. In the early evening, we went out to Kulkpeni for bible class. Timothy interpreted for me as I taught a fun class dealing with numbers in the Bible. It is amazing how numbers help us to remember different bible stories.
I will close for the day. Hopefully, the electricity will stay on the majority of the night! Ha!
