This morning when we went to town we met some of the guys from the electric company; they had on their hard hats and were carrying those things they put on their feet to climb the electric poles. We are in hopes that they figured out why the electricity keeps going on and off but we are not keeping our finger crossed!

Steve had 3 new babies come to the Child Center this morning that were special needs children. We had never seen any of these children before.

The first one that came had spina bifida, she had already gotten the surgery to close the place on her back; she was 3 years old and could not walk, crawl or stand which is not unusual. Steve gave them a baby stroller.

The very next child that came in was severely mentally delayed. The mother said that she had a long hard labor and that the baby was 2 years old and could not do much of anything; this one was a little boy. Steve gave her the last stroller that we had. She said that the baby had been this way since birth and that she had never taken him to the hospital for his developmentally delayed problems because that is the way that he came to her and she had resolved herself that that was the way he was supposed to be. What a wonderful attitude but we could tell she was still worried about him.

We will have to look and see if we can find some strollers the next time we are in Tamale. We have yet to find a place that sells new strollers but sometimes we find used ones. The third child had curvature of the spin and could not stand or walk; she was past 2 year. Steve went to town and bought her a baby walker. He is hoping that with the aid of the walker she will be able to figure out how to walk; she did not appear to be mentally delayed, mostly physically delayed but sometimes it is hard to tell, many times mentally and physically delayed go hand in hand.

Amama did not come to work this morning and she is not coming tomorrow because her rival “sister wife” had a baby. Amama’s husband has 3 wives; Amama is the first wife which is the best wife to be! The first wife has more clout than the other wives; the second, third, fourth wives are more like servants. The naming ceremony for the baby is tomorrow and Amama had to spend today cooking for the visitors that will come tomorrow to pay their respects.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support!

The Monkeyshines

The parents have been holding out on me! They have been keeping the good stuff for themselves! SUGAR CANE! I never knew that sugar cane was a thing! Mom and Dad knew about sugar cane but they never gave me any before! It is delicious! It is very woody but when I bite it the sugary water just pours out into my mouth! If I am not careful it will run down my chin and it will be wasted. Mom says that it is not “real” food so she only gives me a few sticks at a time! Really! Why is she being so stingy? Probably so she can keep more for herself! I can tell you right now; I will take all I can get! Don’t worry, the sugar does not make me hyper because I already hyper!

This afternoon Mom and Dad worked on my condo. While they were gone several of my stuffed animals fell down and so did my hammock! I missed the hammock most of all! I was so excited when Dad was hanging it back up! I tried to help but he said I was a messer! Well, I am quick too! Dad was holding the eye bolt with the washer on it in his mouth. He was standing on the ladder working; I jumped up on his shoulder and had the bolt snatched out of his mouth before he knew what hit him! I ran to the tip top of the tree so no one could reach me. I took the washer off the bolt and put it in my mouth! Like father, like son! I dropped the bolt but Dad had to go in the house and get a new washer!

Isn’t life grand???

Love, Skeeter
