The lights have been on and off all day so my theory about them cutting the trees and improving our power situation is false! Steve found out that the men with the pole climbing gear were actually going house to house looking for those that have connected illegally! Many people here just climb the poles barefoot and hook into the power themselves. It is very dangerous! Many of them connect every night and disconnect in the morning. I told Steve that if he sees them again, he should tell them that they are going around checking at the wrong time of the day; they should be going at night. We see the guy at the end of our lane connecting and reconnecting each evening; he has a meter so we are not sure if he is illegally connecting or if he is trying to save electricity.

Dauda, the mason, came to the mission house this morning. We explained that we were going to wait a while on the wall project but that we needed him to chink the 2 round houses that we had metal roofs put on last year. There is a gap between the walls and the roof line that needs to be filled to keep the bats from nesting in the houses. He gave us a list of supplies and he is going to bring a couple guys tomorrow and do that job. He said that it should not take very long because the job is small. After he finishes the chinking, we might hire him to help with the rubble removal. It just depends upon how much he wants to charge.

It rained so heavily last night that Steve was afraid that more of the wall might have fallen down so this morning when we went for our walk, we walked down the lane so we could see the perimeter of the wall without having to walk through the tall grass. There had not been any additional damage.

Donkey took the day off from work because today is the first day of the Damba festival. It is an annual festival to celebrate one of their traditions. He is supposed to be back tomorrow and we will need him to help the masons.

Thank you for all you do for us and the work.

The Monkeyshines

I have told you and told you that Mom is sort of crazy! But no one seems to believe me! You have no idea what I have to live with! Mom made homemade mushroom soup for lunch today. Dad “says” he likes the soup! Mom hates to waste anything! “You know there are these starving children in Africa ….” Well for whatever reason she thought that I might like to eat / drink the soup. I tried it but it was not for me! However, I did eat a couple of the mushrooms. That was a mistake; when she saw me eat the mushrooms, she decided that I would like the soup part too. She then came up with the bright idea of using the broth to mix my suppertime bottle! Excuse me! Really! You cannot imagine what a strange combination that was, milk, sweetened corn cereal and mushroom soup broth! Am I a contestant on “Fear Factor”? Well, she put it in my baby bottle and gave it to me; I tried it just to make her happy but it was awful! Really awful, the soup made my bottle taste salty! Needless to say, that experiment was REJECTED !!!

If anyone is having a hard time weaning their baby from the bottle just ask Mom for the recipe! It is guaranteed to work!
