We are sitting in a hotel in Tamale. Steve had to come to Tamale to renew his Ghanaian nurse’s license tomorrow so we decided to come over this afternoon and spend the night so we did not have to get up so early in the morning. The reason we decided to come today is because the roofers do not work on Friday. The roofers stayed longer than we expected and we did not get away from the mission house until 5:45 which made us have to drive part of the way in the dark. It is so dangerous to drive after dark. Many of the vehicles do not have lights and there are people riding bicycles and motorcycle with no lights or reflectors not to mention there is a danger of meeting an armed robber. Needless to say we were happy when we saw the lights of Tamale. The little hotel we stay in is called Relax Lodge; it is run by a very nice Indian couple. There is a restaurant in the hotel which made getting supper very convenient.

We got a good rain last night and we only found 4 places that the new roof was leaking. Abochi, the roofer assures us he will fix them all. The roofers worked today. They leveled the ceiling and started adding braces every 2 feet so they will have something solid to nail the ceiling tiles to.

The termites have come out; it takes a couple good rains before they come out. They come out in the night. The children were all out tonight with pans of water and small tree branches trying to catch as many termites as they can. Their moms will roast them in a dry pan; they make a protein, calcium packed snack. They taste like burned peanuts. As we were driving we drove through lots and lots of termites. Our windshield is covered. There were so many termites that it looked like we were driving through snow. I think it is a bit too hot for it to snow! Ha!

Osman, the agric man that sprays the mango trees is coming tomorrow morning to spray again and we are proud that we are not going to be around for that. I hate smelling those chemicals and no matter what we do the smell comes inside the house. It will be worse tomorrow because the veranda ceiling is off which leads right into the house. The mango trees look much better but there are still some leaves that have the bugs / mites whatever on them. He will continue to spray once a month until September. Hopefully by then they will be gone.

Shiabu, the electrician came back this morning and got all the lights inside the house working again. He will have to come back after they get the ceiling tiles set and rewire the fans and add a few new fans and light fixtures.

Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
